Procop described the center stone as tablet-shaped and it is narrower than the traditional emerald cut. It seems fairly deep but I think it may be a bit less than the 10 cts estimated by People. The stone is surrounded by similarly faceted but also ribbed trapezoidal cut stones that appear slightly concave to fit around the ring. It's hard to tell from the photos because of the faceting and the ribbed effect but the largest pair look like they could be 1.5 to 2 cts. ea. -- and the stones seem to encircle the entire ring. So my own estimate is 18 - 19 cts total weight for all the stones. Procop said they are of the highest gem quality which means they are D Flawless diamonds that were cut to spec. Unlike stones that are bought already cut and polished, specially cut diamonds may have more ct. wastage so the resulting cost per carat could be higher. People's $1M estimate for the
entire ring sounds reasonable with the gem quality, the labor hours and the workmanship. It is the sort of ring that would be made by the likes of Harry Winston, Van Cleef and Graff. Gven the provenance, if it ever goes to auction, it will certainly go for a multiple of what the market value may be.
Congratulations to Angelina's left ring finger, which
on Friday became the actress's most celebrated appendage (no small feat, considering
its competition).
Of course, the finger had a lot of help in its rise to stardom, mainly
in the form of a big, sparkly engagement ring. And although you might
think you don't care about the ring, you probably do deep down, so here
are all the details.
The ring was designed by jeweler Robert Procop, the former CEO of
Asprey who has collaborated with Jolie on two previous jewelry
collections to benefit her charity (a capsule collection for Asprey in
2009 and
one for his private clients in 2010). A spokesperson for Procop tells
WWD that
Brad Pitt contacted him over a year ago, and they've since been working
on Angelina's ring this whole time, those sneaky devils.
WWD reports:
After Procop sourced the diamond, he then worked to
Pitt’s designs to fashion it into a faceted, elongated tablet shape to
suit Jolie’s hand. The diamond is set in the ring amid smaller faceted
stones graduated in size.
So, mazel to them, and perhaps tablet-shaped diamonds will be the 2012 version of
Kate's giant sapphire! Surely
QVC is already on top of this.

When the time finally came for
Brad Pitt and
Angelina Jolie to make
a promise for their future, Pitt made sure to do it right.
"Brad had the vision" for the custom-cut engagement ring,
Beverly Hills jeweler Procop tells PEOPLE in this week's engagement
special cover story. Check out the stunning sparkler – with diamonds set
on a band of yellow gold – in a close-up photo.
An independent expert tells PEOPLE that the ring could weigh in at more than 10 carats total, with a price tag of $1 million.
Jolie, 36, quietly
debuted the ring at a private event at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on April 11.
After seven years and
six kids
together, the couple decided that they were ready to begin their next
chapter together. "They've reached a stage where their family has
jelled," says a source who has spent time with them.

I like the inside-the-media stories, especially in regards to
celebrity/gossip media outlets. I enjoy trying to figure out what is
and is not “worthy” of a “special edition” or a “double issue”. What
makes it on the cover of any given tabloid? How do they decide? Well,
People Magazine’s choices are always fascinating. Last week,
their cover story was about that dude William Levy, who is competing on
Dancing With the Stars.
Levy must have a great publicist, because many outlets are really
trying to make this “WHO?” nobody “happen”. I hope that last week’s
People issue sold very poorly – and I think it did. Which explains why
People’s
staff worked throughout the weekend to put together a “special edition”
for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s engagement. Like, when was the last
time
People put out a special edition days before the usual
Wednesday release? I suspect the last time involved Prince William’s
engagement… or the royal wedding last year. So there’s your comparison –
Brad and Angelina are American royalty, at least according to
People Magazine, and their engagement is worthy of a special edition.
Yes,
more photos of Angelina’s ring have come out,
and it’s much different than I originally thought. From the side
angle, I thought it was just one large emerald-cut diamond with maybe
some smaller diamonds at the base. But this is one decent-sized
“oblong-shaped” diamond, with smaller diamonds making a “tiered” effect.
Procop told People Magazine that the surrounding diamonds are “ribbed” and weigh in at 10 carats –
“The side diamonds are specially cut to encircle her finger. Each diamond is of the highest gem quality.” As Procop said before, Brad worked on this ring for a YEAR. Good God. Procop continues,
“Brad
had a specific vision for this ring, which he realized over a yearlong
collaboration. He wanted every aspect of it to be perfect, so I was able
to locate a diamond of the finest quality and cut it to an exact custom
size and shape to suite Angelina’s hand. Brad was always heavily
involved, overseeing every aspect of the creative design evolution. Each

And Angelina’s ring costs more than the ring he designed for Jennifer Aniston (hers was reportedly worth $500,000). Although
People
is now saying Angelina’s ring costs $1 million, I wouldn’t be surprised
if it was more than that, judging solely by the quality of diamonds
used, plus all of the special effort Brad took in co-designing it. What
I’m saying is that if (God forbid) Angelina ever auctioned this ring,
it would go for much more than $1 million.

Now that
Brad Pitt's
confirmed his engagement to
Angelina Jolie, let's take a closer look at the ring he designed for his partner of seven years.
As you can see, the emerald-cut, multi-stone stunner gracing the
finger of one of the most famous women in the world as she clutches a
glass of champagne is, like Jolie herself, elegant and one of a kind.
The sparkler was designed by Pitt in collaboration with Beverly Hills
jeweler
Robert Procop, who exclusively confirmed the news
to The Hollywood Reporter last week.

"He wanted every aspect of it to be perfect, so I was able to locate a

The couple confirmed their engagement on Friday via Pitt's manager,
Cynthia Pett-Dante, who said: "It is a promise for the future and their kids are very happy. There's no date set at this time."
The pair are parents to: Maddox, 10; Pax, 8; Zahara, 7; Shiloh, 5; and twins Knox and Viv, 3.
News of the engagement should come as no surprise to readers of
The Hollywood Reporter. In January, Pitt told
THR that he and Jolie did hope to one day tie the knot for the sake of their children.
“We’d actually like to,” he said of making Jolie his wife, “and it
seems to mean more and more to our kids. We made this declaration some
time ago that we weren’t going to do it till everyone can. But I don’t
think we’ll be able to hold out. It means so much to my kids, and they
ask a lot. And it means something to me, too, to make that kind of
commitment.”
At the time, Pitt declined to comment on whether he had proposed yet.
“I’m not going to go any further,” he said, “But to be in love with
someone and be raising a family with someone and want to make that
commitment and not be able to is ludicrous, just ludicrous.”
After confirming their engagement Friday, it seems like EVERYONE wants to know just how Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt will be celebrating their nuptials!
Well, if you thought you might be able to catch a glimpse of Angie in her white dress here in the States, think again!
The couple will be tying the knot in the south of France this summer,
at a chapel in the village of Correns! The chapel is located on their
estate, Miraval, which has been a retreat for the two since they began
leasing it in 2008.
How romantic!
A friend of Brangelina says:
“They have been quietly preparing for one of the most
glamorous show-business weddings of all time for months. I’ve seen their
chateau, and it is one of the most romantic settings imaginable.”
Ooh la la!
As for the guest list? Angie and Brad are never ones to disappoint!
Friends including George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise and Matt Damon are amongst the 200-300 guests invited, along with Angie’s dad, Jon Voight!
This definitely sounds like a ceremony to remember and will most likely be the wedding of the year!!!
Wonder what Angie's dress will look like? And can you imagine all the
kids walking down the aisle as well?! That is sure to be too adorbz for
WORDS!

What royal wedding? The upcoming Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie union could be the media event of the century.
Jolie quietly debuted her gorgeous engagement ring given to her by
longtime love Pitt at a private event at the Los Angeles County Museum
of Art on April 11, thus creating a media wedding frenzy around
Hollywood's most glamorous couple.
First, there's the ring, designed by Beverly Hills jeweler Robert
Procop, who said Pitt was instrumental in coming up with the unique
design. "Brad had a specific vision for this ring, which he realized
over a yearlong collaboration... The side diamonds are specialty cut to
encircle her finger. Each diamond is of the highest gem quality."
Although the specific carat weight and cost has not been officially released,
People.com reports it could be about 10 carats, with a $1 million price tag.
As for the wedding details, no date has been set, but some speculate
it could be a grand affair at their home in the south of France this
summer, while others believe Brad and Angie could do it in a very
low-key way, possibly even eloping.
Then there's the guest list. Who will be the best man and maid of
honor? Will Jolie's once-estranged father, Jon Voight, attend? Will
George Clooney be in the house?
One thing is for sure... Pitt and Jolie, who have been happily
cohabitating for years, felt it may be time to make it official because
their six kids --Maddox, 10, Pax, 8, Zahara, 7, Shiloh, 5, and
3-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne -- wanted them to be married.
Jolie told "Extra's" Jerry Penacoli earlier this year, "They figured
out what marriage is now, they're old enough so now they kind of like
the idea of it. But were still convinced that half of them just want to
party."
