Q: How do you train for action roles?
"It's hard, but I try to find time to train.  I'm acting a bit more now because I can't be what my family needs me to be while I'm directing -- it takes a lot more time and effort to direct and I look forward to being able to do that again when things are better."
"But as an actor, you have a good excuse: you have to demand some time to exercise.  Some of the reasons why I chose my recent roles were to push myself, because I knew in order to do them I had to find my strength again.  For Those Who Wish Me Dead  my character is very capable, so I was chopping wood and starting fires."

-- To put the last part in context, recall what she had said in VF two years ago:
"Sometimes women in families put themselves last, until it manifests itself in their own health.”
The necessary training for her acting roles compel her to be give more time for herself, her own health and needs.

Q: As a working mum what does self-care mean to you?
"For most women, it's the thing we don't do or it's the last thing we do.  We almost feel guilty taking time for ourselves.  My mother passed away many years ago and I'm alone as a woman but life still has many lovely moments."

If you read the above carefully, understanding her trend of thought, an explanation is not necessary.

-- She and her Mom were two women caring for themselves.  With her Mom's passing she lost that.  She's alone as a woman  -- she's not alone period.  She is surrounded by her family who cares for her, but none of them are women.  Not yet.  Brad was with her when her Mom passed away which is why she was never alone, then and now, in the absolute sense, and of course Brad is not a woman

She told Elle two years ago on the subject of her mother:
"I would give anything for her to be with me at this time. I’ve needed her. I talk to her often in my mind and try to think what she might say and how she might guide me."
As for the man in her life, Brad, she has alluded to him a number of times in other Mon Guerlain promos:
"I wear perfume every day, unless I'm in a country where there is malaria and mosquitoes. It's nice for a woman to have a scent that her lover remembers, who identifies it with her." -- for those times when they couldn't be together.
"I think it is not said enough how much we need the men in our lives to be strong and capable and the best they can be.” "we’re all human and very flawed"
"a full acceptance of yourself... peace comes from that. And makes me better with the people I love."
"I think more vulnerability, more getting you arms around your successes and your failures, makes for a better partner, a better dad, a better son."
Recall also that the longest scene in her video for Mon Guerlain Bloom of Rose shot in the Louvre showed her admiring "Psyche Revived by Cupid’s Kiss" from different angles -- the depiction of the mythical love story where love endures against all odds is described as "a gorgeous rendition of true love." -- their love.

It is also noteworthy that not only does Angelina have a bee conservation project now being aided by Guerlain, but Guerlain's emblem is a bee.

Hello

"On Mother's Day my children make me breakfast and pick me flowers – they treat me like a lady," she revealed. "When I do take time for myself, I rediscover that softness I speak of... I also realise I have more fight and resilience in me than I knew. But at my core I'm soft and vulnerable - it's not my dream just to be strong. I want to be allowed to be soft and I don’t want to be harmed or feel unsupported when I am."

HELLO! sat down with the actress and humanitarian while she was in Paris with her godmother, the British actress Jacqueline Bisset. The duo were in town for the launch of Mon Guerlain's Eau de Parfum Intense, which has notes of vanilla as the star ingredient."It's wonderful to be back in Paris. It reminds me that I don't spend nearly enough time here," she said. "Sometimes we're somewhere in our lives and can't really imagine something different – we don't take ourselves out of a place. But when I'm in Paris, I feel like a different person – and I’m curious about that side of myself. It’s enlightening here."

"When I first started working with Guerlain in 2017, we spoke about how perfume commercials often capture a fantasy life – and we wanted to deliver something that was a little heightened but still real. The first Mon Guerlain film was shot at my home in France. For this new perfume, given its strength and our conversations around femininity, freedom and making bold choices, my new home in Cambodia seemed like the natural setting. My [Maddox Jolie-Pitt] Foundation has been based in Cambodia for 17 years and it has been a dream of mine to live in that part of the world. The film is set in the home that I’ve finally built there."

"When your children are little you feel more 'mommy'. When they are teenagers you start to remember yourself as a teenager. You see them going to punk clubs and you wonder why you can't go. I'm in this fun moment where I’m rediscovering myself."

"Kindness – to others and themselves. It's important to be humble – know the freedoms you have and what you've been blessed with and make sure you help others. And always remember your place – we’re all human and very flawed. We're tiny pieces in a much bigger world.  As they grow up, I find my children are strong individuals but still open-minded. I try to lead by example and be kind and gracious, as my mother was – and loving and tolerant. But when there's a fight that needs to be had, get in there. We need to prepare the next generation because there’s so much happening in the world – they’re up against it. I'm working on a programme for children with the BBC. We're counting on our children so we must give them the right knowledge and support."

"I like them all differently," she said when asked how this scent compares to the others. "I just had them all out in the hotel room and I tried to pick a favourite, but I couldn’t. It’s an embarrassment of riches to have these different versions; you don’t know which to wear for day or at night. The new one does seem stronger, though."

An Exclusive Interview with Celebrity Jewelry Designer, Robert Procop

by ANGELA KELLER

Widely respected as one of the most knowledgeable diamond and gemstone experts around the globe, Robert Procop is as gracious as he is talented. I had the pleasure of meeting with him at a recent Saks Fifth Avenue trunk show, and his eyes lit up as he enthusiastically walked me through his beautiful collection.

Born in Southern California, Procop has been a curator of gems since the tender age of 16, when he went to work in his brother-in-law’s pawn shop. It was there that he became fascinated with stones and learned the ins and outs of buying and selling them for the right price.

At 19 years old he was learning how to cut gemstones and diamonds under the direction of master cutters, and even trained to cut emeralds at the source in Bogotá, Colombia. Another key element of Procop’s process is the use of light to maximize the beauty of each stone he cuts. His knowledge of lighting came from working closely with his father, who was an engineer with General Electric.

Over the course of his career Procop has served in a multitude of roles, from wholesaler and designer to retailer and business leader. As a young adult he opened and ran his own store called Diamonds on Rodeo, where he created jewels for an elite clientele, including President Ronald Reagan. In more recent years, as the CEO of Asprey & Garrard, the crown jeweler of the United Kingdom, Procop led the organization through a restructuring and a return to their beginnings as two separate companies. Today, he is focused on running his own LA-based jewelry house, Robert Procop Exceptional Jewels, and sells his designs through select luxury retailers and to private clients.

Procop specializes in and thrives on finding rare stones he can turn into stunning pieces of jewelry. He is especially passionate about working with high-quality, precious gems such as diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds. The rarer and more flawless, the better. His customers are primarily collectors or those looking for limited-edition, statement pieces of exceptional quality. His jewelry is intricate and feminine, and his influences range from vintage Hollywood and Parisian culture to today’s glamorous red carpet.

“I create a piece of jewelry designed around the stone and a woman’s lifestyle,” says Procop, who lets the stone guide him in his design inspiration.

Procop creates roughly 450-500 pieces of jewelry per year, which allows him to select exceedingly rare stones and put special care into cutting each piece. This also allows him to focus his attention on delivering only the best quality and unique pieces. A special project he’s working on currently involves cutting colossal stones that are more than 100 carats in size. These exquisite statement pieces will be presented to collectors through his retail partners, such as Saks Fifth Avenue.

Along with his impressive resume, Procop is perhaps best known for designing Angelina Jolie’s engagement ring. He worked with Brad Pitt for more than a year creating the one-of-a-kind ring, centered with a flawless oblong-shaped diamond with smaller diamonds circling the yellow-gold band. The total weight of the diamonds was reportedly 16 carats.

Procop first met the actress and humanitarian in 2000, and the two have since gone on to collaborate on a philanthropic jewelry project. Under the brand, Style of Jolie, the duo designs and sells statement gemstones with 100-percent of the proceeds going to build schools for girls in impoverished countries. This month, Procop is also releasing a captivating jewelry collection he designed with Jolie’s artistic daughter, Zahara.

In addition to the children’s causes touched by Style of Jolie, Robert has a charity in Los Angeles that is especially close to his heart. When the designer was first introduced to the House of Ruth, the shelter for battered women and children operated just one four-room house. Now, thanks in large part to his efforts from not only monetary donations, but also designing and building more facilities, the nonprofit has 16 shelters.

“Philanthropy has always been an important part of my life… I’m blessed to be able to help people,” Procop says. To further support new projects for the cause, longtime client and close friend, Brooke Shields, is collaborating with him to design the Legacy Brooke collection.
While Procop has had many notable accomplishments over the course of his career, he shared with me that he is most proud of “the notes from children that have lived in the House of Ruth shelter and are now graduating school and have made a new life for themselves.”

Without a doubt, this is a man who has a true passion for his vocation. While Procop was hesitant to name his favorite creation, he told me that the statement pieces in his American Glamour collection, which gives a nod to old Hollywood with its unique vintage flair, are the most copied. “(My designs) are a labor of love… they are all like my children,” he says. They are indeed stunning.

From creating jewels that are sure to be heirlooms, to his life-changing charity work in support of children and families, it is clear Procop is building an extraordinary legacy.

 Thanks Felicity

Gem expert, private jeweler and jewelry designer, Robert Procop, will debut a giant black sapphire that he says is the world’s largest star sapphire certified by the Gemological Institute of America. The 888.88-carat stone will appear at Saks Fifth Avenue at South Coast Plaza until the end of October.
The gem is named the “Star of Jolie,” after Angelina Jolie, the internationally known actress, filmmaker and humanitarian. It is the featured pendant on a necklace comprised of 70 black star sapphires, totaling an additional 104.42 carats. The entire piece is set in 18k rose gold and has a retail price of $5 million.
The pear-shaped, double-cabochon star sapphire has not been treated by heat or other methods, according to the GIA report. Its transparency is semi-translucent to opaque. There is no indication on the report about it being the largest star sapphire graded by the organization. Its geographic origins are unknown.
In addition to her film work, Jolie and Procop have been long-time collaborators in a collection of jewels called “The Style of Jolie” in which proceeds are used to promote education and establish schools in conflict-affected countries through the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which builds schools for children around the world. The first of the schools opened for girls in April 2013 in Afghanistan outside Kabul. It educates from 200 to 300 girls.
In addition to the unveiling of the Star of Jolie, Procop will also debut new pieces from his collection with Jolie, as well as pieces from his Exceptional Jewels collection. A portion of the sales from this event will be donated to charity.
After Southern California, the piece will travel to Saks Fifth Avenue stores in both Bal Harbour, Fla., and Palm Desert, Calif., in November. The tour will conclude at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., in December.
The world’s largest known star sapphire is the “Star of Adam,” an oval-shaped blue star sapphire, currently the largest star sapphire in the world. It weighs 1,404.49 carats and its estimated cost is at least $100 million. It was discovered in Ratnapura in southern Sri Lanka, in August 2015.

This is the World’s Largest Star Sapphire (and It’s Named After Angelia Jolie)

Beverly Hills jewelry designer Robert Procop unveils an 888-carat star sapphire.

On October 5, legendary Beverly Hills-based jewelry designer Robert Procop will debut the world’s largest GIA-certified star sapphire at Saks Fifth Avenue at South Coast Plaza in Orange County, California.
This smoke-hued black star sapphire has a central bright spot that emits shimmering rays outward—the term for this effect is asterism, from the Latin word astrum (for “star”) and occurs in just a handful of gems.
The necklace will be accompanied by 10 new pieces from Procop and Jolie’s Exceptional Jewels collection; proceeds from sales will be donated to charity.  Following its debut in Southern California, the necklace will be displayed at Saks Fifth Avenue locations in Bal Harbour, Florida and Palm Desert, California, concluding at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. this December.

Angelina Jolie Opens All-Girls School in Afghanistan, Vows Profits From Eponymous Jewelry Line to Fund More

by Melanie Bromley

 UNHCR, FameFlynet Pictures

Angelina Jolie's big heart has made an even bigger difference: The UNHCR Goodwill ambassador exclusively confirms to E! News that she has opened a school in Afghanistan.
Jolie chose to fund the girls-only primary school in an area just outside of Kabul, a region that traditionally favors boys' education over girls'.

Angelina picked the village as the site of the school due to its high refugee population—regional fighting caused many locals to flee when their homes were destroyed, but since the collapse of the Taliban regime, families are slowly starting to return to the once-devastated area.)

The school itself currently educates between 200 and 300 girls and has already proven to have a huge impact on the local community.

Meanwhile, Jolie's not stopping there, and already has plans to open other similar institutions, vowing that this will be just the first of many. As for how Brad Pitt's fiancée is bankrolling her goodwill gesture, Jolie is releasing her personally designed jewelry collection, the Style of Jolie, to retail stores for the first time. She will use the profits from the line's no doubt hefty sales to build even more schools around the world.

"Beyond enjoying the artistic satisfaction of designing these jewels, we are inspired by knowing our work is also serving the mutual goal of providing for children in need," Jolie told E! News exclusively.

And how can you get your hands on the Jolie-designed range? The newly expanded collection will go on sale this week. And 100 (yes, 100) percent of the profits will go towards Jolie's new foundation, The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict.

Jolie and her long-term jewelry designer, Robert Procop, have spent years collaborating on the collection.
"We launched this collaborative collection with the intent that 100 percent of the profits will go to charity," Procop said. "The intention was to create something beautiful but more importantly to provide children an opportunity to have an education.

 UNHCR

"The beauty of these creations is matched by the beauty of spirit behind Angelina's most heartfelt mission—to empower children in crisis. The first funds from our collaboration together have been dedicated to the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict and we have recently completed a school in Afghanistan.

"For me it's an honor to have the opportunity to be a part of creating this line with Angie, as we both believe every child has a right to an education."

Many of the pieces in the collection are based on a unique design Angelina created for a necklace she gifted to Pitt—a historic tablet shape. As for the rest of the line, Angelina spent countless hours exploring coloring, gemstones and different shapes she was drawn to.

"These designs are timeless; they reflect her chic sense of style and also feminine strength," Kam Heskin, the spokesman for the Robert Procop Design Studio, told E! News. "There are so many pieces that make this collection beautiful and unique."

The Style of Jolie will be available exclusively in Tivol, a Kansas City jeweler. Tivol will be holding a special event to launch the collection this Wednesday.
"Tivol, with their historic reputation and dedication to family values is a wonderful retail partner to launch our collection in the U.S.," Jolie told E! News.

"Tivol is a quality company known for carrying high-end jewelry brands that has been family-owned for several generations," Procop added. "The Tivol family has been so gracious and instrumental in planning this event."

For more exclusive details on Angelina's school plans and to see more from her Style of Jolie Collection, tune in to E! News at 7 and 11:30 p.m.

Flu food: 30 healthful things to eat and drink if you're sick.

Flu Food: 30 Healthful Things to Eat and Drink If You’re Sick

It's true: New York is in a state of flu emergency. The city's supply of flu shots is dwindling. Kids are tapping elbows instead of high-fiving. We're pretty sure this is how Contagion started. If you're in total isolation, hiding under your covers, staring at the bleak Seamless app on your phone, we're here to rescue you. There are foods and drinks all around the city that will make you feel better, and yes, you can get many of them delivered. And if you're not sick, this is the time to jack up your immune system. We've surveyed the city's vitamin-packed, comforting, soothing, vaguely healthy food (and booze!) options and put together plans based on your level of misery, ensuring that even the sickest of folks can find nourishment with ease.
You’re Either Bed-Ridden or Quarantined and You Need Delivery:
Pulled Duroc Pork Sandwich With Spiced Honey From Num Pang: Pork is a good source of zinc, which helps your bod fight off infections, and honey soothes your throat. But it's the Parisi baguette that can cure all.
Market Plate From Westville : This combo of four veggie sides is perfect delivery fare because it reheats well in the microwave. To maximize antioxidants and all that jazz, go for the honey Dijon Brussels sprouts, garlic pesto mash, roasted sweet potatoes, and green beans with almonds.
Tortilla Soup From La Esquina: The ancho chile gives this soup a kick, and spice thins mucus (gross, but true!). The avocado and carbs from the tortilla strips will give your sad, weak body a needed protein boost.
Chicken With Hot Red Pepper From Hunan Kitchen of Grand Sichuan: This is considered one of the spiciest dishes in New York. It'll make you cry (happy) tears as phlegm leaves your system.
Garlicky Pork Chops From La Caridad 78: Yes, there's the pork, but it turns out that garlic is also helpful because of something called allicin, which is a strong antibacterial and antiviral. The restaurant made the cut as one of New York's top delivery spots.
You’re On a Liquid Diet:
Usain Bolt Immune Booster Juice From Melvin’s Juice Box at Miss Lily's: If it's named after the fastest man alive, it's good enough to get your JV body up to speed. This concoction's packed with apples, beets, ginger, garlic, carrots, Vitamin C, spirulina, echinacea (what?), golden seal (the hell?), B-complex, and banana. The banana flavor overpowers all the scary health stuff, and it actually tastes awesome. Plus: Melvin's delivers.
Strawberry Blond From the Butcher’s Daughter: This new café from cocktail pro Heather Tierney makes health food taste all right. This juice spritzer has blood orange, basil, and strawberry, which provides Vitamin C.
Elderflower Tea From Frankies 457: Elder berries are an old folk remedy to fight the flu; they have antioxidant, antihistamine, and anti-inflammatory effects, which are probably maximized when not inside a cocktail.
Soy to the World From Liquiteria: Shit's not going well if you can't stomach food. This "liquid meal" (meh) consists of banana, blueberries, melon, vanilla soy milk, lecithin, and organic raw honey. Bananas keep your colon healthy, and honey, which is an antiviral, promotes digestive health. In sum: You'll be regular.
Winter Flu Brew From Podunk: Tea maven Elspeth puts homemade strawberry mint cayenne jam, the juice of one lemon, hibiscus, orange peels, eucalyptus, honey, and your choice of black, green, or herbal tea into this magical pot.
You Can Muster the Energy to Pick Up Food to Go:
Jim's Matzo Ball Soup From DBGB: This Bubby-approved soup's double-stock broth will thin out your mucus while the carbs give you energy. Plus: Chef Jim Leiken adds schmaltz to the balls.
Sweet Potato Casserole From Mighty Quinn’s BBQ: This super-veg side dish helps get rid of toxins, and it comes topped with maple syrup and pecans. But don't forget a slab of pulled pork while you're here.
Broccoli Béchamal With Gruyère From Arancini Bros.: The broccoli in the rice ball is packed with immune-fighting Vitamin C, and fried food always makes you feel better, right?
Carrot and Onion Tartine on Sunflower Rye From Bien Cuit: Sunflower seeds are stocked with vitamin E, which gives you an excuse to eat this sandwich and get a loaf of extra bread on the side (yeah, it's that good). The veggies on this open-faced sandwich can't hurt, either.
Pibil Tacos From Cochinita: Winner of the most flu-fighting ingredients packed into one dish: pork shoulder braised in oranges, spices, banana leaves, with hot salsa. Might as well get the meat sweats if you already have a temperature.
You Can Act Like a Functioning Human and Eat at a Restaurant:
Roasted Whole Hen of the Woods Mushroom From the Marrow: 'Shrooms fight infection and support white blood cells. Plus: Harold Dieterle's dish comes with kale, and this wouldn't be a roundup of health food without the omnipresent Queen Green.
Watercress Salad With Roasted Carrots and Cumin Yogurt From L’Apicio: Yogurt is a smart thing to eat because it keeps disease-causing germs out of your digestive track. This salad's far tastier than out-of-the-carton Fage (but feel free to go to 16 Handles and cough without covering; the fro-yo chain is invading the city).
Salmon From Cafe Tallulah: This new Upper West Side restaurant and cocktail lounge aims for an "Elaine's-style" vibe. If that's telling, you'll feel better after eating vitamin-D-packed fish from a former sous-chef at Blue Hill at Stone Barns.
Iowa Farms Pork From Louro: If you're finally taking off your sweatpants, you should have a little fun and try a new restaurant. This West Village spot from chef David Santos is getting good hype, and probably because it serves pork loin and belly with barbecue baked beans.
Oysters From the Leadbelly: One medium oyster provides all the zinc you need for a day, and you'll eat at least ten Kumamotos here. There's also comfort food in the form of truffle fries, Scotch eggs, and artichoke macaroni and cheese.
You Insist on Acting Like a Kid Home From School and Will Eat Only Sweets:
Warm Sweet Potato Cake from Kyotofu: This Hell's Kitchen Japanese spot specializes in desserts, and they taste damn good despite the vaguely healthy ingredient list. This one's got sweet-potato caramel, which must be flu-fighting on some level.
Banana Split From the Birdbath Bakery Pop-Up at Books of Wonder: Sometimes, all you need is an ice-cream sundae. This organic dessert is topped with pain-fighting cherries, cocoa nibs, and dark chocolate sauce. And, yes, vanilla ice cream — which is definitely a treat for your sore throat.
Green Tea Mille Crepes From Lady M Cake Boutique: Twenty or so layers of delicate crepe, subtle whipped cream, and enough immune-boosting matcha to turn the whole thing green.
Chocolate Loaf From Blue Duck Bakery Cafe: This rich bread's made out on Long Island, but it's sold at Union Market. With 72 percent cacao chocolate, it's packed with antioxidants.
Almond Brioche Toast From Amy's Bread: Take it home and pan-fry it for a quick and easy French toast. You could even heat this up in the microwave and it'd still taste great. Almonds give you vitamin E, too.
You're Going to Drink the Pain Away:
Start Me Up From the NoMad: The mix of bourbon, rum, strega, honey, ginger, lemon, and orange bitters will go down easy and soothe your throat.
Warm Ginger Cocktail From EN Japanese Brasserie: This cocktail's normally served cold, but all you have to do is ask for it hot and the bartender will happily comply. Ginger helps digestion and clears congestion, so it'll put you in good shape for the evening to come.
Rum & Raisin From Saxon + Parole: We already told you about how good Greek yogurt is for your malnourished, sad state of a body. It's what makes this cocktail creamy.
Fraise Sauvage From Employees Only: With wild strawberries, lemon juice, Plymouth gin, and Prosecco, this fruity drink is both refreshing and vitamin-packed. It's not a girly cocktail when a master mixologist makes it.
Sour Cherry Old Fashioned from ABC Kitchen: Cherries, which are also a good hangover-preventing food, fight pain. And Maker's Mark never did any harm.

Robert Procop's Jewelry Collaboration With Angelina Jolie Brings The Gem Expert To The Masses

Robert Procop

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. —Robert Procop has become known to most people as the jewelry design partner of Angelina Jolie. The two are creating high jewelry pieces using statement gemstones under the Style of Jolie brand. It’s a charitable undertaking where all proceeds from the sales are used to build schools for girls in impoverished countries through the Education Partnerships for Children of Conflicts, co-founded by Jolie.
However, Procop’s involvement in the upper tiers of the jewelry and gemstone industry runs a course that has immense depth and breadth. He currently owns and operates, Robert Procop Exceptional Jewels, where he sells his own jewelry creations, and buys and sells statement gemstones in a confidential and secure environment to well-heeled buyers. Before this venture, he was the CEO of the famed jewelry house, Asprey & Garrard, where he led the organization through a difficult period by returning it into the two separate entities they originally were. He then led Garrard for a while. The remarkable thing about this is he had no prior experience running a luxury jewelry house. He has also owned retail stores on Rodeo Drive.

Robert Procop 63.27-ct. cushion blue sapphire ring
But his true skill is being one of the best and most knowledgeable diamond and gemstone dealers in the world. It is something he has done successfully since he was a teenager and is the foundation of his long and varied career as a business leader, retailer, wholesaler and jewelry designer. His contacts range from the workers in remote mines in countries like Columbia and Sri Lanka, to the leaders of haute joaillerie houses in Paris and London. His ultimate skill is buying superb, statement gemstones at less than what it costs to mine them. It’s the result of his network that he is able to discover sources of great “material,” buy it when the price is right and then resell the items as an investment.

“I only buy for value,” he said in the Beverly Hills showroom and studio. “I never buy something where I’m going to make a design. I buy it if I could make an offer competitively and it can be sold in the trade.”This means he doesn’t get involved with auctions or other competitive bidding situations. He also tends to avoid white diamonds, turning instead toward rarer and more valuable fancy colored diamonds.
He says he only deals with gemstones that haven’t undergone heat-treatment or has had very little treatment. Almost all gems these days undergo some kind of heat treatment, which enhances clarity and color. Large, recently mined gems with the most sought after colors (“pigeon-blood” rubies; luminous green emeralds; deep, rich blue sapphires) are rare enough. Being able to purchase them without heat enhancements is even more difficult. But Procop says these stones exist if you know where to look.

Robert Procop Exceptional Jewels Long Emerald Earrings
“It’s just buying them at the right price,” he said. “Since I need to sell them to the wholesale trade and there are customers looking for an investment, you have to buy below the market. So they know you are buying at a competitive market price.”
His knowledge of gemstones and diamonds is so great and he is so respected, that he has become the editor-in-chief for the next edition of Famous Diamonds, considered by many to be the world’s most important book about diamonds. It was first published by Lord Ian Balfour, a noted diamond historian and a longtime employee of diamond mining giant, De Beers.
Procop, who refers to the book as “the bible,” explains that after five editions, Balfour, in his late 80s, can’t continue updating the coffee-table-sized tome—with its lush images and vibrant stories about the world’s most famous diamonds. Balfour personally chose Procop.
“I had been honored by Ian Balfour to pass on his legacy,” Procop said. “(Balfour) is very good at finding these romantic stories. He always says the diamond business is not only full of trading but full of everything from emperors to smugglers.”
With his expertise in colored diamonds, Procop said he will update the book with some of the rarest colored diamonds in the world and will provide explanations of how diamonds get their unusual colors.
“Pumpkin orange, unusual greens … diamonds that come from the Argyle mine (in Australia, famous for its pink diamonds) that are a deep violet, then they get brighter blue,” he said. “We’re going to try to come up with a rainbow of colors because people have never seen some of these.”
Procop’s studio and workshop is well organized and immaculately clean. Walls are painted white and a row of windows fills the room with light. It’s here where his small staff designs jewelry based on his sketches and specifications that are then sent to master craftsmen to build. It is also where his customers can come to look at his jewelry creations and gems. His clients, which he never reveals, include every U.S. president since Ronald Reagan, other notable politicians and, considering its location, the best known and most powerful names in Hollywood.
On this day several Style of Jolie pieces, including an emerald necklace, bracelet and ring set in rose gold (his metal and color preference) were among the jewelry pieces on a white table. All of the emeralds are cut in the tablet shape (which resembles a cushion cut) created by Jolie and Procop, and a signature part of the Style of Jolie collection. Procop said Jolie wanted something with an historical message. She spent a great deal of time studying how a tablet is held and together they designed the shape.
As mentioned before the idea behind the jewelry is to build girls schools in impoverished areas. The business model is rather simple. They design the jewelry together. She wears the pieces. Then they are sold.
Procop pointed to the ring. “This is a 27-carat emerald,” he said. “When the stone is sold we give the money to the charity and then we build another school.”

Read This: an epic expose on Scientology's implosion and fundraising chicanery

The Internet is full of interesting things to read outside of The A.V. Club—no, really! In our periodic Read This posts, we point you toward interesting or noteworthy pieces that caught our eye.
These are dark days for Scientology, as L. Ron Hubbard’s controversial church/cult/business takes one massive hit after another. The famously litigious sect’s notorious veil of secrecy is steadily lifting as a series of high-profile ex-Scientologists have publicly come out against the organization. There's Academy Award winner Paul Haggis, whose defection inspired a 2011 New Yorker article by Lawrence Wright, who is also behind the expose Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, And The Prison Of Belief, which will be released on Thursday; and Jenna Miscavige Hill, the ex-wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige, who will be releasing her own Scientology tell-all next month in Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology And My Harrowing Escape (which we’re guessing from the title is not overly positive).
Now Buzzfeed has released a fascinating expose on Scientology’s seeming implosion. The article centers on the controversial construction of “Ideal Org” buildings, extravagant and expensive Scientology worship centers that are financed by massive donations. In an exhaustively researched piece, Alex Klein argues that these Ideal Org buildings serve dual purposes: Though the number of Scientologists internationally and nationally is shrinking rapidly, due in no small part to the hurricane of bad press the church has received as of late, the constant building of expensive new Scientology buildings creates the illusion of growth and robustness among the faithful and the general public. And these buildings have been a massive cash cow for the perpetually cash-hungry organization because they glean untold millions of dollars in contributions from the faithful, only a small percentage of which actually seems to be devoted to building them. The article posits these buildings as elegant metaphors for the state of Scientology: gaudy and glitzy on the outside but empty and hollow on the inside.
Buzzfeed follows the numbers on the donations and discovers, not surprisingly, that they don’t add up. Nailing Scientology on something like real estate fraud is a little like busting Al Capone for tax evasion, but if a lengthy article about fraudulent fundraising practices sounds dry and tedious, it reads like a gripping legal thriller. These might be dark days for Scientologists, but it is a Golden Age for the sizable segment of the populace that derives exquisite schadenfreude out of its never-ending public foibles. If you have a few spare hours, it’s very much worth your time.

"Knew they'd be together forever"

Looking for proof that Brangelina are the real deal?
Just ask their longtime friend Robert Procop -- the jeweler responsible for designing Angelina Jolie's engagement ring from Brad Pitt.
"Brad and Angelina are a very romantic couple," Procop, who met Jolie after dressing her for the Oscars years ago, told Us Weekly at a fete celebrating his Robert Procop Exceptional Jewels pop-up at the Grand in the South of France. (Procop is currently collaborating with Jolie on a jewelry collection, Style of Jolie, whose proceeds will go to Jolie's foundation, Education Partnership for Children of Conflict.) "They always knew they'd be together forever and get married one day, right from the start," he adds.

As Jolie and Pitt -- who met on the 2004 set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith -- have matured, so has their relationship, says Procop.
"The relationship may have been all flying planes and riding motorcycles at the start, but any new relationship is exciting that way," he says. "Now though, they've settled into this wonderfully strong family unit and it's beautiful how in love they are."
Adds the designer, "They're both lovely, very talented people that compliment each other . . . when you're with them, you can see how strongly in love they are."

Over the years, Procop says both Jolie, 37, and Pitt, 48, have sought his help custom-making gifts for one another.
"Angelina came to me six years ago to create a pendant for Brad as a present," he reveals. "She's very clever and had this idea that it would be like an ancient tablet, and she researched it looking at old Chinese and Egyptian scripts . . . [it] has a love letter from him to her inscribed on it."
So naturally, when it came time to pop the question to the mother of his six children, Pitt turned to Procop for help designing a ring for his bride-to-be. (The final result is a piece of jewelry boasting an estimated 16-carat, emerald-cut diamond and worth approximately $500,000.)

As for their wedding bands?
"Over the years, I have been entrusted with some wonderful secrets," Procop teases. "I'd never share something that should be between two people and that is very romantic and special and something for them."

WHEN the world first caught sight of Angelina Jolie's engagement ring - designed by her husband-to-be Brad Pitt in collaboration with Robert Procop - the jeweller's name was catapulted into the spotlight.

"Brad and Angelina are a very romantic couple, they're always surprising each other with gifts," Procop told us. "I've been very low-key with my work my whole life - I never share who I sell to. But then the engagement ring was the one that caught the public's attention."

And now interest in Procop's work is set to increase even further, as he launches a showcase of the Style of Jolie collection - designed in collaboration with the actress - at Cap Ferrat's Grand Hotel.

"The line is all about Angelina  - very chic and very clean. It includes her favourite colours - green, black and yellow - and it's very graceful and pure," he revealed.  "The colours and the shapes are bold but classic. Angelina likes to dress in a monochromatic way - if she's wearing a green dress, she'll wear green jewels, for example - and the collection reflects this."

The pair met at the Oscars in 2000 and their shared love of jewellery was the basis for a lasting friendship and working relationship, which also saw them working together on Jolie's film The Tourist - for which Procop sourced and designed the jewellery.

"Angelina has a creative mind and we work well together. She's very hands-on and very methodical," he said. "And of course all proceeds from the sale will go to Angelina's charity, the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which benefits children in need around the world. It changes thousands of lives, and that's something that's very important to us both."

Style of Jolie will be showcased at the Grand Hotel in Cap Ferrat until August 15.

Girl Power. Angelina Jolie.

Shockingly beautiful, wicked smart, witty, classy and stylish (but not a fashion victim at all ). She´s off the charts crazy-sexy, a talented actress and director, the woman pilots her own planes, is the loving mother of children of the world, a spokesperson for the painful world refugee movement, and married to the most beautiful man alive. Seriously, this girl is unreal. Confessed fan of Angie, I share some of her latest B+W portraits for Vogue, Newsweek and St. john. Enjoy.

Angelina Jolie’s Jewels on Show

JOLIE’S JEWELS ON SHOW: Jeweler Robert Procop is heading to the South of France this summer to showcase Style of Jolie, the designs he creates in collaboration with Angelina Jolie, along with a number of pieces from his own Exceptional Jewels collection. From July 15, the jeweler will hold two pop-up showcases, at the Grand Hotel in Cap Ferrat and at the Hotel de Paris in Monaco, which will concurrently run through to Aug. 15. “It’s the one place where everyone loves to spend their summer,” said Procop. Jolie, whose engagement ring Procop created with Brad Pitt, is expected to visit the showcase with Pitt during the summer.
All proceeds from the Style of Jolie line go towards the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, Jolie’s charitable foundation. With the proceeds of the pieces that have been sold since the line’s launch in late 2010, the foundation has just finished building a school in Afghanistan. Procop plans for the limited-edition Style of Jolie collection, which had previously been sold only by private appointment, to launch at select boutiques from September in countries including Russia, China, the U.S. and Turkey. “We’re looking for quality jewelers who have a heart for the charity as well,” said Procop.

Angelina Jolie Jewelry Collection, Style of Jolie, To Be Displayed In France (PHOTOS)

Despite being, oh, the most famous woman in the world, Angelina Jolie likes to keep a low profile (not too many mag covers, few red carpets, etc.). So we were slightly surprised to learn that the star will be exhibiting a jewelry collection bearing her own name, a collaboration called Style of Jolie, in the South of France this summer.
Women's Wear Daily reports that Style of Jolie, created in collaboration with jewelry designer Robert Procop, will go on display at the Grand Hotel in Cap Ferrat and Monaco's Hotel de Paris from July 15 through August 15. Procop, who designed Angelina's famous engagement ring, worked with Jolie to create the limited-edition pieces and all the proceeds will go to Angie's charity of choice. (Brad, get that wallet ready...)
On working with Jolie, Procop told The Huffington Post, "She is a truly gifted artist and a pleasure to work with; she brings joy to everyone around her. It is an honor to work with someone who uses her talents to help the lives of so many."
Who knew those talents included fine jewelry design? Not us.
Below, see some of Procop's and Jolie's designs for his Style of Jolie collection (as well as Angelina's engagement ring!).

Jeweler Robert Procop, who collaborated with Brad Pitt on Angelina Jolie’s engagement ring, has had a long history with the couple since he met Jolie in 2000. He’s helped Jolie design Christmas gifts for Pitt and teamed up with her in 2010 to launch Style of Jolie, a collection of emerald and citrine pieces mounted in gold starting at $4,000. “We’re designing things she would wear, that she really truly loves,” Procop told the New York Times. “Then we sell them and give 100 percent to charity.”

The proceeds all go toward Jolie’s charitable foundation, the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, and have already funded a school for girls in Afghanistan, WWD reports. And come September, the collection will be more readily available—previously sold only by private appointment, Style of Jolie will launch at select boutiques in countries including Russia, China, the U.S. and Turkey.
