The
People story wasn't selling. Coffee with Paul Mescal with one photo was outselling it by a mile. They decided to trot out photos. His shirtless scene in
OUATIH was a hit, but even "scantily clad" and "side by side" the Cabo story is still not selling. As of this writing, Page Six's tweet of the Mescal story had 425+ likes compared to 150+ for its tweet of the Cabo pics. This despite the fact that the Mescal story has been repeatedly retweeted by every tabloid while the Cabo photos were an exclusive.
Both
People and the photos did not include information on where they were supposed to be staying in Cabo. No mention of anyone else celebrating New Year's with them. Cabo is a very popular New Year's destination. No independent sightings.
He brought along his homework to their "romantic Cabo getaway." A two inch binder containing a script with his name printed across that he apparently just started reading and was totally engrossed in. Ines was also reading a paperback. This goes to heart of the problem alluded to by

We don’t know exactly when de Ramon’s birthday is, but a random website called nationaltoday.com says it’s December 19, just one day after Pitt’s. That makes de Ramon anywhere from 29 to 33 years old.
This just goes to show that you can’t trust the tabloids. Also: Pitt and his fake girlfriend have something in common, after all.
The photos showing them sitting facing opposite directions and "engaged in occasional conversation" do little to convince a skeptical public. For two people supposedly in the midst of a blossoming romance, they looked bored and disinterested. He isn't shown looking at her and the only time he is seen half smiling is when he was walking alone.
The key point here is Brad could have staged the Cabo shoot differently. It was his choice to reinforce suspicions.
This leads to the question: why the obviously ambiguous effort to push the story and why at this time. It's like they
need to sell this story
now, but at the same time are giving people reasons not to buy.

I dismissed it at the time but it could be true. He didn't give any cover story interview which he was probably contractually obligated to do. There are likely penalties for failure to comply and this is what he and the studio negotiated to take its place. They used the tabloids' dating preoccupation. He doesn't have to answer questions about the FBI report, abuse, or any legal wrangling but it still gives the film publicity. They both get what they want.

In retrospect, it makes sense that their very first appearance together at the Bono concert was after
Babylon's first advance screening in L.A. which elicited "First Reactions Are All Over the Place." Their first date by press release to People was the
Babylon after-party.
Babylon, which has yet to open outside the U.S., is in
dire need of help. The HFPA gave
Babylon a boost with 5 nominations including one for Brad. He hasn't confirmed that he'll attend the Golden Globes but another report from
People could be in the works.
It still sounds like a wild idea but Clooney practiced a version of it before Amal. In Brad's case, it's an obligation he is not trying to hide he is glumly fulfilling. He and his team are simultaneously promoting and undermining the story. I don't think the studio cares so long as it helps get people aware of and curious about
Babylon. As for Ines, "sources tell DailyMail.com that she is a member of his team." This can only help her. Nikki Reed prepared photos for the seating plan for Ines' birthday dinner table at Pace and her Instagram post to the "birthday girl" hinted that Ines was feeling down and Reed offered wishes and reassurance. "I hope your evening felt special and I hope you felt beautiful and loved."
The pictures by the pool were taken from all sides and angles, from level with them to looking down at them. It means the photographer spent quite a bit of time and was able to freely move around. And this was the scene Brad wanted. There's very little variation, very little movement. Except for when she turned to say something to him and exposed her profile, only her back was visible. She never faced the camera. He never turned to look at her even when she was talking to him, he just cocked his head. She apparently took a dip in the pool but his trunks look dry. He's been under the sun long enough for his chest (and only his upper chest) to turn red. She took her top off but kept her hair covering her back.
He has on only one small pendant and 2 gold chains -- similar in total to what he was wearing when he got his Buddhist tattoo. Also bracelets and a gold ring on his right ring finger.
Her hair is covering more of her back than her top would. I don't think she was trying to tan her back. She didn't want to face the camera and just wanted to make it appear it was to tan her back. Perhaps she's shy about her role.

"How much longer?" She seems to be covering her breast and he seems to want to avoid looking at them.
He has what looks like a tattoo of Saturn on his left shoulder and something else on his left upper arm above the bike. The tattoo on his upper right chest is discernible but faded. With the caveat that it's brightly lit but lo res, it looks like the triangle on his right forearm was modified to add what appears to be an "A".

He wore his shorts low in front to give the first complete view of the huge ALPHA covering his lower abdomen. It was first seen in 2014, added to and encircling Angelina's birthdate indicating it is about and for her. At the time, her birthdate in Khmer script may have been retouched, it's dark but not as clean and sharp as it was in 2007. A light colored margin was placed around her birthdate that gave it the appearance of floating over Alpha. It still appears to be floating but the Khmer script looks faded. He recently added a much smaller OMEGA above ALPHA.
An Alpha female is a powerful and successful woman, often in a leadership role.

All the tattoos above the waist would naturally be visible when he is wearing swim trunks but Alpha would not be. If he was walking the other way the tattoos on his left would not be visible. This is a deliberate effort and showing off these tattoos is sending a message: His torso is a canvas dominated by tattoos for, inspired, or designed by Angelina. Do not miss the forest for the trees.

In photos obtained exclusively by Page Six, the chiseled Oscar winner and his gorgeous girlfriend can be seen enjoying a relaxing — and very scantily clad — New Year’s Eve day by the pool during a romantic Cabo getaway.
The hot new couple slipped into swimsuits and sat side by side in opposite-facing lounge chairs, with de Ramon forgoing her bikini top completely.
The actor, who turned 59 last month, showed off his well-defined abs and many tattoos in teal swim trunks, which he paired with a gold chain around his neck and aviator sunglasses on his face.
