Let the pouting commence!
The Moment: Angie might have scooped a Golden Globe for her performance in Gia (1998), but what that film will always best be remembered for is her numerous rolls in the hay with co-star Elizabeth Mitchell. People are fickle like that.
The Sexy: The scene involving the chain-link fence is probably the most downright saucy. Lucky old fence…
If It Was Frumpy: Poor Ange would get her knitted cardigan caught in one of the links and spend the next half an hour tutting as she attempts to untangle it.
The Moment: Angie steams things up every time she’s onscreen in Wanted (2008), but never more so than when she steps out of the bath and sashays off in just a towel. James McAvoy is left understandably open-mouthed.
The Sexy: Take your pick from her briefly-seen bum, the flirty look over her shoulder or her array of badass tattoos… all of them are sexy as hell!
If It Was Frumpy: Having her haul herself out of a walk-in bath would lessen the impact somewhat…
The Moment: A 2001 photoshoot with Dave LaChapelle, in which Angie stars with a horse in a series of ever-more erotic poses. The above example of interspecial nuzzling has to be seen to be believed!
The Sexy: These snaps tread a fine line between sexy and troubling, but just about land on the right side thanks to Jolie’s wild-child persona.
If It Was Frumpy: She’d be fully covered up in riding gear. Although on second thoughts…
The Moment: Ethan Hawke arrives at Angie’s door in erotic thriller Taking Lives (2004), undressing her without a word before proceeding to the naughty stuff. It’s like something from The Red Shoe Diaries!
The Sexy: They do it surrounded by crime scene photos. Who doesn’t find that hot?
If It Was Frumpy: There would be a lot more fuss removing various layers, tights, socks, etc. As it is, her clothes just kind of fall off!
The Moment: Angie is enlisted by crinkly rockers The Rolling Stones to play a stripper in the video for their 1997 single Anyone Seen My Baby? Naturally, she steals the show.
The Sexy: Standing next to Mick Jagger, a paving slab could look attractive, so when Angelina Jolie is the co-star in question… well let’s just say it’s a winning piece of casting.
If It Was Frumpy: Marianne Faithfull would have bagged the role. Sorry Marianne.
The Moment: Air traffic control drama Pushing Tin (1999) isn’t memorable for much, but Angie’s turn as frustrated housewife Mary certainly stands out, particularly when she seduces John Cusack into a spot of mutual infidelity…
The Sexy: She’s got the femme fatale thing down pat here, and poor old John is helpless to resist. Who can blame him?
If It Was Frumpy: Ange would leap out of bed halfway through having remembered she left some scones in the oven.
The Moment: Brad and Angie set about tearing strips off each other at the climax of Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) before channelling all that aggression into a particularly energetic bout of lovemaking. Phew!
The Sexy: Their passion is, shall we say, “believable”. We can only hope Jennifer Aniston has never sat through this in its entirety.
If It Was Frumpy: The session would be brought to an abrupt halt as soon as the first ornament was smashed.
The Moment: Who would have thought that a picture of a girl eating a strawberry could become so iconic? This early photo-shoot would go on to become the go-to snap for editors everywhere… well, it is pretty hot, isn’t it?
The Sexy: As you can see, it’s all about the lips here. Angie’s most famous assets have never looked better.
If It Was Frumpy: Substitute the strawberry for a potato. It’s not quite the same, is it?
The Moment: Jolie plays teen tearaway Legs in coming-of-age crime caper Foxfire (1996), and nowhere is her bad-girl allure more evident than when she tattoos herself (on her chest, naturally) at an all-girl get-together.
The Sexy: Apart from the obvious (she’s, er, topless), it’s the pervading sense of teen rebellion that’s most bewitching here. She could be trouble, this one!
If It Was Frumpy: She’d be sporting a fading blue anchor on one of her fleshy, drooping arms.
The Moment: When Grendel’s dear old mum attempts to seduce burly Ray Winstone in Beowulf (2007). Will they get it on? Bet in play… now!
The Sexy: Computer-generated it might be, but there’s no getting away from the fact that Angie’s not wearing any clothes… at all. Plus she has a rather slinky tail, which is the one area we’ve always thought she could improve upon.
If It Was Frumpy: She’d hop back out of the water before muttering, “I’ll wait ‘til it warms up a bit”.
The Moment: Angie causes a commotion on the Croisette with her stunning green dress at Cannes 2008. She was promoting Kung Fu Panda at the time, in case anyone is still reading this.
The Sexy: Have you not eyes in your head? Even at six months pregnant she looks absolutely phenomenal.
If It Was Frumpy: She’d be wearing a poncho-sized maternity dress. Happily, that just ain’t how Angie rolls…
The Moment: Director Simon West works his teenage audience into a frenzy with a thoroughly gratuitous shower scene at the beginning of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001). Think of the money, Angie…
The Sexy: Jolie gives it the full monty as she pouts, gasps and tosses her hair around like a pro. Steady on love, it’s only water!
If It Was Frumpy: She’d studiously attempt to keep her hair dry. Repeated washing leads to split ends!
The Moment: Let’s be honest, if Cyborg 2 (1993) didn’t have Angelina Jolie in the cast, it would have disappeared without trace, never to be mentioned again. However, not only is Ms Jolie present and correct, she also stars in a nerd-bothering sex scene between man and machine. And so here we are, talking about Cyborg 2. Sigh.
The Sexy: It may be candlelit, soft-focus tosh, but she certainly seems to be enjoying herself! For a robot, anyway.
If It Was Frumpy: Just as things are getting exciting, Angie’s software crashes, forcing her into hibernation. Boooo!
The Moment: Jolie gave a particularly eye-opening interview to Allure magazine back in 2004 in which she discusses her sexual preferences in some detail. She may be a lot of things, but no one could ever accuse Angelina of being shy.
The Sexy: Allow us to quote: “I like to push boundaries, both emotional and sexual, with another person. That's when I've felt the sexiest. I've been in both submissive and dominant roles because I want more. I was always the top until I read somewhere that the bottom controls the top so I thought, 'Wait a minute, that's right. I'm doing all the work!' I've never been tied up though. I have a feeling the person that does it will be The One. I think that's what I'd like.”
If It Was Frumpy: “I quite enjoy the missionary position. Not very often though.”
The Moment: Angie announces herself as one of Hollywood’s hottest stars by landing the coveted status symbol of her very own Rolling Stone cover. Unsurprisingly, she’s in her knickers…
The Sexy: Angie topped the magazine’s Hot List for 1999, and fittingly, the photo-shoot is pretty saucy stuff.
If It Was Frumpy: She’d be on the cover of Good Housekeeping rather than one of the most iconic and sexy mags in the world.
The Moment: Having scooped a Golden Globe for her performance in Gia, Angie decides to celebrate in her own inimitable style… by jumping fully clothed into the pool at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The Sexy: Back when Angie was starting out, she was pulling these sorts of madcap stunts week in, week out. “What's funny to me is that everyone wasn't jumping into the pool,” she would go on to tell Playboy. It’s the attitude that’s sexy here…
If It Was Frumpy: She’d have nipped upstairs to get changed into her bathers. A modest one-piece of course.
The Moment: If arse-kicking ladies float your boat, Angie’s performance in Salt (2010) is about as sexy as they come. Don’t call her “darling” unless you want your neck snapped.
The Sexy: As we’ve alluded too above, there’s nothing sexier than a woman who could put you in a coma with her bare hands. Right?
If It Was Frumpy: Maybe the above rule only works when the lady in question is unfeasibly beautiful. It didn’t have quite the same appeal in Misery…
The Moment: Angie’s 2001 interview with Entertainment Weekly, in which she discusses her love of knives, kinky sex and of course, the fact that she keeps a vial of then-husband Billy Bob Thornton’s blood around her neck.
The Sexy: The accompanying photo-shoot is as sexy as the ultra-provocative interview, with said vial on prominent display.
If It Was Frumpy: She’d be wearing a little capsule of BBT’s toenail-clippings around her neck instead.
The Moment: Angie makes a brief appearance in incomprehensible fantasy flick Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow (2004), sporting a rather fetching leather and eyepatch combination. It wouldn’t work on many, but on Angie…
The Sexy: For some reason, that eyepatch looks really foxy on her. We can’t quite decide why, but there you have it. Her powers work in mysterious ways.
If It Was Frumpy: She’d be decked out in bottle-bottom glasses and an overcoat.
The Moment: Esquire magazine crowns Angelina the sexiest woman alive back in 2004, placing Ms Jolie in a stunning photoshoot to prove their point. It’s difficult to argue with them really…
The Sexy: Introducing several buckets of water into proceedings was a good idea. A very good idea.
If It Was Frumpy: She’d look like a drowned rat rather than some sort of Queen of the ocean!
The Moment: Angie appears on the cover of Vanity Fair in 2008, looking utterly astounding whilst heavily pregnant. Something about motherhood clearly agrees with her.
The Sexy: It’s a masterclass in proving pregnancy is sexy, without resorting to the shock tactics of the Demi Moore cover. Bravo!
If It Was Frumpy: She’d look washed-out, nauseous and bloated. But nobody wants that on a magazine cover do they?
The Moment: Angie stars alongside rent-a-hunk Antonio Banderas in Original Sin (2001) for what is essentially a soft-core porn movie. Like a Mills & Boon novel made flesh, it’s as saucy a project as she’s been involved in.
The Sexy: Don’t get us wrong, the film is charmless, vapid tosh! However, there’s no denying that Angie convinces in the more “energetic” scenes.
If It Was Frumpy: Angelina’s character would spend her days pouring over romance novels rather than modelling her life upon them.
The Moment: Starring as Colin Farrell’s mother in Oliver Stone’s bloated Alexander (2004), Angie lights up the screen every time she appears. Machiavellian she might be, but evil has never looked more beautiful.
The Sexy: Whilst Farrell is hamstrung by a truly shocking hairdo, Angie has rarely looked better. Turning her trademark pout up to eleven, and sporting a weird penchant for snakes, this is silver-screen smouldering at its finest.
If It Was Frumpy: She’d always have her knitting to hand rather than a sensuous serpent.
The Moment: With Brad Pitt in Cannes to promote Ocean’s Thirteen in 2007, Angie goes and upstages her other half by looking out of this world on the red carpet. Sales of floor-length yellow gowns go through the roof!
The Sexy: She just looks perfect, doesn’t she? It takes an uncannily beautiful woman to make Brad Pitt look ordinary.
If It Was Frumpy: Jeans and a t-shirt might not have caught the world’s attention in quite the same way.
The Moment: Usually, the James Lipton-hosted love-in that is Inside The Actor’s Studio is a forum for little more than sycophantic twaddle and copious rounds of applause. Invite Angelina along however, and you get a little more than that…
The Sexy: “I’ve always collected weapons since I was very little,” begins Angie. “I had started having sex, and sex didn’t really feel like it was enough… and in a moment of wanting to find something honest I grabbed a knife and cut (my boyfriend).” Terrifying? Yes. Weirdly attractive? Afraid so.
If It Was Frumpy: “I’d always collected Russian dolls since I was very little…”
The Moment: With Lipton looking as though he’s about to have a heart attack, Angie reveals she was a highly sexual girl as early as her kindergarten years. Stick to asking about her favourite colours, James!
The Sexy: Obviously, a sexualised pre-schooler is just plain weird. What’s sexy is the evident glee with which Jolie enjoys testing her interviewer’s boundaries. We told you she was trouble.
If It Was Frumpy: She’d be talking about playing hopscotch at kindergarten. Which in fairness isn’t so much frumpy as it is wholesome!
The Moment: Angie comes over all Jessica Rabbit to voice scheming gold-digger Lola in Shark Tale (2004). You might think there’s nothing that could make a fish seem sexy, but if so, you’ve clearly never seen The Little Mermaid.
The Sexy: Angie purrs all of Lola’s lines with a voice like honey. As she says herself, “she’s my bedroom voice.” What a tease…
If It Was Frumpy: We wouldn’t have sat through an hour and a half of animated tosh.
The Moment: Having just given birth to twins, you could have forgiven Angie for looking a little below her best for the premiere of Changeling (2008). And yet here she is, looking as trim as ever. Seriously, how is this possible?
The Sexy: Understated black dress, low-key make-up, thousand watt smile. She looks a class act, as ever.
If It Was Frumpy: She’d be sporting some serious bags under those eyes. Twins can be somewhat tiring…
The Moment: Another stand-out scene from Mr. & Mrs. Smith, in which Angie goes undercover as a PVC-clad prostitute before offing her awe-struck prey.
The Sexy: What, aside from the fact that she’s wearing stockings, suspenders and a skintight basque, you mean?
If It Was Frumpy: Said basque would be made from denim. That said, she’d probably still make it look amazing!
The Moment: The Pitt-Jolie brood pose for a ‘50s-themed photo shoot for W magazine, in which Angie steals the show as an immaculately gorgeous housewife.
The Sexy: In a departure from her usual sex-kitten shtick, Angie looks pretty wholesome in these snaps. The twinkle in her eye says otherwise though…
If It Was Frumpy: She’d be sporting a grease-stained apron with a fag hanging out of her mouth and her hair done up in a bun.
