The Final Words About the Pose

Angelina Jolie Responds To Leg Meme: 'I Didn't Pay Attention To It'

Posted: 03/23/2012 4:10 pm Updated: 03/23/2012 5:29 pm Filed by Youyoung Lee

Much ado was made post-Oscars about Angelina Jolie's bare leg emerging from her inky black Versace gown, spawning one of the Internet's silliest memes: Jolie-ing. The leg (right, if you must know) subsequently generated its own Twitter handle and was even superimposed onto great artworks like Leonardo da Vinci's "Vitruvian Man," all to hilarious effect.
But what does the actress have to say about it? Turns out, not much. In an interview with The Huffington Post, Jolie says good-humoredly:
I honestly didn't pay attention to it. You know what I mean? I don't watch those TV shows and if I go online and see something about myself, I don't click on it. And the people I surround myself with don't really talk about that kind of stuff. [Laughs]. I heard something, but I didn't pay any attention. It's as simple as a being a woman picking a dress you like and having a night, and not really thinking about anything else.

The woman, the dress and oh what a night!  Her brief response is once again covered everywhere.

Interview: Jim Rash

AVC: Going back to Oscar night: You’re onstage, about to accept the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. Was it just an old improv instinct that kicked in, encouraging you to strike the Angelina Jolie pose?
JR: You know, it’s weird. Some people agree with me, understand what I’m saying—but as you’re waiting for that moment, for that envelope to be opened, Angelina got onstage, and with her pose and stance—I just thought it was fun because I thought she was owning and having fun with and rocking her outfit. When I got up there, we were proud, it was this long journey and all of a sudden your name is read and you’re outside of your head, and I thought “What a great way to just show off a proud moment”—with the Oscar on my leg. [Laughs.] I guess I didn’t see it as mocking. [Jolie] was doing it and owning it and having fun, so I thought that would be fun to see my version of it. I wouldn’t call it mocking, like everyone did. I felt bad that was the reaction. I was just having fun, so hopefully she took it all in good fun.
AVC: Have you heard anything from the Pitt-Jolie camp?
JR: I can’t imagine. Most people I’ve spoken with who have met her and him say they have a great sense of humor. All I was doing was doing my version of that proud moment, whatever it is. Doesn’t mean I won’t write her a letter. [Laughs.] Why not.
AVC: How would that letter start?
JR: “Dear Angelina. I’m the bald, bespectacled guy.” Probably something I would do, though, because I just want her to know what I was thinking. Neurotic.
AVC: Is there any chance that Dean Pelton will end up in a similar dress?
JR: Not in season three, because that’s already been shot. But I don’t know. That would maybe make us too meta, if our personal lives were inching their way into the world of the show. But who knows? I’ve already worn more revealing dresses than that. And I’ve even made a stance like that when I was in the dean’s sister’s Fourth of July outfit—leg cocked to the side. I feel like you could even look at that Oscar pose as a nod to Dean Pelton

Angelina Jolie Discusses Her Leg

When Angelina Jolie proudly thrust her leg out onstage at the Academy Awards this year, her lower limb galvanized the telecast, inspired a meme (screenplay winner Jim Rash was quick to copy her), and somehow, won all the Oscars. (It was sad when Angelina Jolie's leg took that Academy Award away from a deserving Viola Davis, but there's nothing we can do about that anymore.) The woman attached to the appendage, however, appears unaware of the revolution her leg caused at home, in the Kodak Theater, and in District 11. "I honestly didn't pay attention to it," Jolie told the Huffington Post. "I don't watch those TV shows and if I go online and see something about myself, I don't click on it. And the people I surround myself with don't really talk about that kind of stuff. I heard something, but I didn't pay any attention." So there was no master plan? "It's as simple as a being a woman picking a dress you like and having a night, and not really thinking about anything else," said Jolie, who then leaned forward and seductively purred, "LEG." (We're guessing.)

Angelina Jolie discusses her leg. Her leg remains quiet and mysterious.

Angelina Laughs Off Jokes About Her Right Leg

By KRISTA WICK
March 23, 2012
While it only took a few days to uncover the mystery behind Gwyneth Paltrow's bizarre Oscar cape, nearly a month passed before someone had the guts to ask Angelina Jolie what in the what was going on with her camera-happy right leg at the 2012 Academy Awards.
As expected, Angie laughed off the jokes made about her attention-seeking limb.
Best & Worst Oscars Fashion: Winners & Sinners
"I heard something [about the right leg jokes], but I didn't pay any attention. It's as simple as a being a woman picking a dress you like and having a night, and not really thinking about anything else," Jolie told The Huffington Post.
As for the internet memes spawned by the pose (hilariously deemed Jolie-ing), Angie says she has no time to pay attention to that nonsense.
"The people I surround myself with don't really talk about that kind of stuff," she laughs. "I honestly didn't pay attention to it. You know what I mean? I don't watch those TV shows and if I go online and see something about myself, I don't click on it."
And there you have it.

Angelina Jolie shrugged off Oscar leg jokes

Angelina Jolie doesn't care about your leg jokes

Angelina Jolie's wandering right leg from February's Academy Awards registered with critics and fans, but don't expect those giggles to penetrate her glossy bubble. She didn't really notice.
Jolie says she doesn't pay mind to that kind of chatter, nor does she consume media that would feature such content. And does not surround herself with people who would subscribe to her famous limb's Twitter feed.
"I honestly didn't pay attention to it. You know what I mean? I don't watch those TV shows, and if I go online and see something about myself, I don't click on it. And the people I surround myself with don't really talk about that kind of stuff," she told HuffPo.
"I heard something, but I didn't pay any attention. It's as simple as being a woman picking a dress you like and having a night and not really thinking about anything else."
So perhaps with her dismissal of the silly (but hilarious) pop culture event we close the chapter on her leg and usher it back inside the folds of that black Versace number. But remember, Angie: There's always another carpet.

There may have been plenty of worthy winners and disappointing snubs at the Academy Awards, but the real star of the show turned out to be Angelina Jolie’s leg. For a solid three or four days after the ceremony, people couldn’t stop arguing over whether it was very sexy or frightfully self-indulgent for her to strike a pose prior to presenting the nominees. If one is willing to listen to Angelina Jolie however, the answer is neither.

In a new interview with The Huffington Post, Jolie says there actually wasn’t a whole lot of thought that went into her dress choice or her behavior. She just picked out the black number and went with it without second guesses the night of and without listening to critics afterward. She apparently ignored the hundreds of stories and thousands of opinions because, well, that’s what she always does.
I don't watch those TV shows and if I go online and see something about myself, I don't click on it. And the people I surround myself with don't really talk about that kind of stuff. I heard something, but I didn't pay any attention.

Famous people say they don’t read stories about themselves all of the time. In most cases, I don’t really believe them. Most people are at least a bit narcissistic, but in Jolie’s case, I actually wouldn’t be shocked if this were true. She and husband Brad Pitt actually blocked their own names on the family computers the kids use, and given their long-term A-list status, there’s probably not a whole lot of value in keeping up.

More Behind the Scenes - Piers

When kelly ripa asks the fashion commentators what they thought of angelina jolie and they all have orgasms on stage

Jim Rash's Oscar pose stole the show: "It certainly was not my intention to steal the show. When you're one of multiple nominees, you get a letter telling you to designate one speaker. Alexander (Payne) was ours. I did not set out to mock Angelina [Jolie] by any means. But I was watching her own that moment up there, rocking that look and sort of laughing as she posed. Then after your name is called, you're overwhelmed by emotion you can't articulate, and I wanted to silently show my pride. So I did that. And although everyone took it as me spoofing her, I was just trying to own that moment the way she had." CHARLOTTE OBSERVER

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22

Oscars week in Los Angeles is like being in Willy Wonka’s factory if you like chocolate.
It really IS as impossibly glamorous and exciting as you’d imagine. The world’s biggest stars attending the world’s most luxurious  parties along Hollywood and Sunset Boulevard.
BEST SUPPORTING LIMB: Angelina Jolie's right leg. All right, its performance was a bit stiff, but there was no denying its quality, or movement
BEST SUPPORTING LIMB: Angelina Jolie's right leg. All right, its performance was a bit stiff, but there was no denying its quality, or movement
I’ve always felt a bit of a fraud, though, because the word ‘movie’ has never appeared on my extensive resumé.
Until now.
By glorious coincidence, I’ve just landed my first role – playing myself in Denzel Washington’s next thriller, Flight.
And today was filming day.
To my amazement, the director turned up in person at CNN’s studios in West Hollywood.
I say amazement because this wasn’t just any old director – he was Robert Zemeckis, genius behind the Back To The Future series, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Forrest Gump.
Brad Pitt, nominated for Best Actor, arrives

‘Any advice?’ I asked.
‘Just feel free to ad-lib a bit,’ he replied. ‘Go with the flow.’
A hyena has responded with less gusto to a freshly slain gazelle’s carcass.
I only had six official lines – interviewing two of the film’s key characters in my own studio – but managed to string this out to about 30, unleashing my full range of theatrical ability in an Olivier-esque tour de force.
Or, as Robert put it, with what appeared to be a straight face: ‘You’re a natural.’

Of course, the perils of the cutting-room floor remain a potential issue. But there was another problem nagging me more.
‘Robert, have you considered how Denzel’s going to feel when he realises I’ve stolen two of his best scenes?’
The director looked at me, slowly and without speaking for a few seconds. Then burst out laughing.
‘I suspect Denzel will be fairly relaxed about that particular threat.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25

Tonight was the Night Before charity gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel – a ridiculously sumptuous occasion run by the DreamWorks movie people.
It’s one of those parties where at every turn, quite literally, you bump into someone stratospherically famous.
At the sushi bar, I was stopped in my tracks by Prince Albert of Monaco, standing with his new bride, Princess Charlene.
‘Piers, great to see you again,’ he smiled, deploying words rarely used by the British Royals when they clap eyes on me.
We talked movies, Monte Carlo and the Olympics – both he and Charlene are Olympians, making them the first royal couple to have that fact in common.
BEST USE OF LIGHTING: The shadow over Jennifer Lopez's dress, leading to the greatest 'did it or didn't it' internet debates since Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl

Princess Charlene was most entertaining.
‘I did NOT run away on the eve of my wedding!’ she exclaimed at one stage, adding with inarguable logic: ‘Why on earth would I do that? I was about to marry my prince!’
Later, she made an offer few could refuse.
‘Albert and I are going to watch the rugby in a pub in the morning with Russell Crowe – want to come?’
‘I’d love to, Your Royal Highness, but I’ll be watching Arsenal-Spurs, I’m afraid.’
Sir Elton John appeared.
‘Elton, how the devil are you? Behaving yourself?’
‘Trying not to,’ he cackled. ‘How’s your little girl?’
‘Three months and looking more beautiful every day.’
Elton’s eyes lit up.
‘Babies are just the greatest thing, aren’t they? I just love my boy more and more every day.’
‘Nothing like it.’

And there we stood, for several minutes, discussing the delights of fatherhood.
Later, I finally met one of my heroes, Steven Spielberg.
‘I watch your CNN show every night at 6pm,’ he revealed, ‘on my Slingbox (an amazing device that lets you watch TV via your laptop) while I’m in the editing suite. And if I hear something that interests me, I stop editing and listen.’
‘How often do you stop?’
‘Enough. Relax.’
‘How about coming on as a guest?’
‘I’d like to, but I’m not very good at being funny.’
‘Who said you have to be funny? You’re Steven Spielberg, not Ricky Gervais! Just come and talk to me about the art of making movies – I’d love that.’
He smiled. ‘OK, maybe we could do that.’
It never ceases to amaze me who watches my show.

I was standing by the candy bar (yes, they had such a thing, even for emaciated actors) when a woman dived from the shadows and gripped my arm.
‘I enjoy you EVERY night. In fact, I absolutely LOVE you.’
Another day, another crazy fan.
Then I looked closer. It couldn’t be, could it..?
It was Diane Keaton, one of my favourite actresses of all time.
‘You have no idea how happy you just made me,’ I gushed.
‘Oh, don’t be silly, you make ME happy!’ she insisted.
I know, I know, ridiculous, but it happened, and I’ll take it.
Next to the Nobu counter I saw Meryl Streep with her husband, Don. She was frantically texting on her iPhone.
‘I’ve lost my daughter and am trying to find her,’ she said, when I introduced myself.
She looked really anxious.
‘Oh no,’ I replied, ‘where is she? What’s happened? Can I help?’
Meryl looked up from her phone and laughed.
‘Oh don’t worry, it’s nothing serious, she’s somewhere in this room!’
We had a chat about her brilliant portrayal of Margaret Thatcher.
‘Could you jab me in the chest?’ I asked.
‘Now why would I do that, Piers?’
‘Because Mrs Thatcher once did that to me, and I wanted to see if you’d perfected the technique.’
Oscar-winning actor Jean Dujardin and The Artist's star actor, Uggie

She laughed, then prodded me firmly in the chest.
‘Amazing,’ I sighed, ‘exactly the same. Did you like her by the time filming ended?’
‘I felt in AWE of her,’ she replied. ‘Whether you agreed with her politics or not, she was a remarkable woman.
'To do what she did, when she did it, in a world dominated by men, was quite extraordinary.’
Thatcher, like Blair, is still much more popular in the States than in Britain.
‘Why is that?’ asked Meryl. ‘I’ve never understood it.’
‘They both ruled as Prime Minister for over a decade – do any big political job that long, and everyone ends up hating you.’
‘I guess so, yes!’
Meryl’s every bit as beautiful, warm and classy as you’d imagine. Surprisingly shy, too.
‘I’ve been trying to get you on my show all year,’ I moaned.
‘I know,’ she smiled, with the faintly dismissive smile the Queen must give when a stranger says, ‘I’ve waited all my life to meet you.’
‘I just don’t like doing interviews,’ she clarified. ‘It’s nothing personal. I hate talking about myself.’
‘I don’t blame you,’ I admitted. ‘I’ve always thought if I was Meryl Streep or Jack Nicholson, I wouldn’t do any interviews either. I’d just walk around, saying nothing, being Meryl or Jack. But I have to warn you. The fact you haven’t will probably cost you the Oscar tomorrow night.’
Meryl nodded sorrowfully: ‘Of course, I realise this.’
As I left, at 1am, I spotted Larry King ARRIVING. He’s 79 years old, has had eight wives, and recorded 7,000 shows in 25 years as my predecessor.
And he’s still getting to parties as I leave. Kudos to The King.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 26

The Oscars themselves were typically narcissistic, awkward, self-congratulatory, simpering and overblown – and I thoroughly enjoyed them. My own awards would have gone as follows:
MOST DISHONEST SPEECH Every one of the 3,456 winners from the movie Hugo who exclaimed: ‘Wow, I wasn’t expecting this!’
MOST HONEST SPEECH Christopher Plummer, who surely spoke for the whole room when he said: ‘When I emerged from my mother’s womb, I was already rehearsing my Academy acceptance speech.’
BEST SUPPORTING LIMB Angelina’s right leg. All right, its performance was a bit stiff, but there was no denying its quality, or movement.
WORST FOREIGN LANGUAGE ACCENT Christian Bale. As we all know, there is not a single inch of the British Isles where you will find another human being that speaks like that.
BEST DRESS Sofia Vergara. It’s always Sofia Vergara, and she wasn’t even at the ceremony.
BEST USE OF LIGHTING The shadow over Jennifer Lopez’s dress, leading to the greatest ‘did it or didn’t it’ internet debates since Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl.
BEST CONTROLLED FURY Ryan Seacrest after Sacha Baron Cohen tipped Kim Jong Il’s ashes over his smart new tuxedo. If looks could kill, it will be Mr Baron Cohen’s ashes we see next.
BEST IMPERSONATION Billy Crystal doing Martin Scorsese doing Nick Nolte. ‘Take Nolte… grrrrrrrraaaaaagggghhhhh.’
SECOND-BEST IMPERSONATION Colin Firth, playing me. Twitter always lights up whenever he appears at these things, with Americans saying we’re twins. It pleases me as deeply as it distresses him.
POSSESSION OF AN OFFENSIVE EIGHTIES HAIRSTYLE Brad Pitt. Come on son, raise your game – who do you think you are, Peter Stringfellow?
BIGGEST MISTAKE Michel Hazanavicius, who managed to forget to thank both the most important people in his life when he won Best Director for The Artist: his wife (and star in the film) Bérénice Bejo, and his producer Harvey Weinstein. He made up for it later when the movie won Best Picture, but still remains in the Uggie House.
LEAST SURPRISING SURPRISE Meryl Streep winning Best Actress. She hadn’t won for 30 years, despite being the world’s best actress ever since then. And she didn’t do my show…
David and Victoria Beckham arrive at the Vanity Fair party
David and Victoria Beckham arrive at the Vanity Fair party

The much-coveted Vanity Fair post-Oscars party turned out to be considerably more entertaining. It takes place at the Sunset Tower hotel, and attracts  more A-list stars per square inch than a Beverly Hills plastic surgery.
Within minutes of arriving, I saw David Beckham chortling with Tom Cruise, Victoria Beckham scowling at photographers (as always – it’s her way of telling them she loves them) and Gwyneth Paltrow begging Steve Martin for a photo on her smartphone.
As I walked through the middle of the main room, a beautiful, absurdly tall and slim blonde woman stood in front of me, barefoot.
Then, very slowly, put both equally absurdly high heels on, one by one, without once using her hands.

‘That is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in my life,’ I observed.
She rose back up to her full, imperious 6ft 4in heel-clad stature, winked at me, and shimmied away.
It was Karolina Kurkova, the Czech supermodel.
Mad Men heart-throb Jon Hamm, who witnessed the same scene, raised an eyebrow and smirked. Words were superfluous.
Gerard Butler’s been in the wars recently, with ferocious tabloid attention to his rehab visit at the Betty Ford Clinic for ‘painkiller addiction’.
But he looked fit, tanned, and svelte.
‘That’s the kind of rehab I need,’ I joked. ‘You OK?’
‘I’m fine now, but it’s been a rough  few weeks,’ he replied.
‘Just had all these old injuries flaring up, and the mixture of 16-hour filming days and endless pills for the pain took its toll. Needed to go and sort myself out.’
‘Judging by all the attractive women in here cooing over your rehabbed new torso, I don’t think there’s going to be a shortage of willing amateur nurses…’
He laughed. ‘No pain, no gain, eh?’

BEST DRESS: Sofia Vergara. It's always Sofia Vergara, and she wasn't even at the ceremony
BEST DRESS: Sofia Vergara. It's always Sofia Vergara, and she wasn't even at the ceremony

At a corner booth, I alighted upon a veritable galaxy of stars buzzing around the ridiculously glamorous Jane Fonda, who’s now 74, but continues to look 50.
I use the word ‘buzz’ appropriately.
One of them was Buzz Aldrin, the astronaut. He, too, defies his 82 years in remarkable style.
He nearly broke my hand with his rock-hard handshake, then scribbled down his contact details. ‘I want to come on your show and talk about Mars,’  he said.
‘I’d love that. By the way, Buzz, I’ve left many parties with odd names scrawled on bits of paper – but never a guy who’s landed on the Moon. Thanks.’
Cameron Diaz is delightfully crazy. A real bundle of amusement at parties.
She was being harangued by two drooling young British men, so I intervened.
‘Guys, she’s WAY out of your league.’
Cameron squealed with giggles.
‘My hero!’
She kissed me on both cheeks.
‘Anything for a damsel in distress.’

‘I’ll come on your show soon, I just need something serious and intelligent to talk about.’
‘The Something About Mary sequel?’ I suggested.
At which point I think I felt a sharply pointed shoe connect with my ankle.
I turned to find myself face to face with Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs, the world’s most celebrated rapper.
Like 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams and most other rappers I’ve met,  Diddy is smart, softly spoken and immaculately attired.
‘I’ve interviewed Fiddy, it’s time for Diddy,’ I said, trying to speak to him in the rap language he might appreciate.
He looked at me like I’d just recited a Chesney Hawkes song.
Michelle Williams was out on a balcony in her stunning red gown, puffing on a crafty cigarette (you’d be astonished how many actors smoke).
‘Good news,’ I told her.
‘Oh? What?’
‘I’ve voted you in my Top Three dresses of the night.’
‘Wow! That’s amazing, THANK you!’ she responded. ‘What an incredible honour, Piers.’ Said with all the sincerity of a Simon Cowell compliment.
‘Don’t mention it, least I could do.’
As I made to leave, a firm arm gripped my shoulder.
‘I’ll do your show if you pay me $40,’ said Chevy Chase.
I paused for thought.
‘Can we make it $30?’
Negotiation is EVERYTHING in Hollywood.

Busy Philipps On Angelina Jolie’s Oscar Leg Pose: It Was ‘The Best Moment Of The Night’

Since Busy Philipps was sitting front row at the Academy Awards, she gives a first-hand account of Angelina Jolie’s leg pose on stage that is getting so much attention. What did she think of “The Descendant’s” screenwriter Jim Rash making fun of the pose? Plus, did she see Angelina’s reaction to Jim’s imitation?

Jim Rash Speaks

  • 2/29/12 at 12:15 PM

Oscar Winners Jim Rash and Nat Faxon on Angelina’s Leg, Community, and The Descendants

Well, Jim, with your Jolie leg pose, I feel like you had no trouble making an impact. If you’d had a pair of scissors, would you have cut a slit up your pant leg just to take things to the next level?
Rash: Look, if I knew something might happen, I would have had tearaway pants or something. [Laughs.] Some people were like, "How dare you?" But it wasn’t mocking at all. She chuckled when she stood like that, and I thought she was sort of just owning that dress and rocking it and selling it, so I thought, I should do that with my own stance to be proud of this moment.
Have you kept up with the meme-ification of her leg? It's got a Twitter account, even.
Rash: Yeah, but I think that started happening way before it got to me. People were talking about that from her red carpet stuff.

Angelina Jolie's Leg: Oscar-Winning Poser Didn't Want to Mock Angie—or Get Punched by Brad Pitt

Tue., Feb. 28, 2012 5:01 PM PST by Gina Serpe

Sure, Jim Rash is an Oscar-winning screenwriter of The Descendants. Sure, he's never been anything less than scene-stealingly hilarious on Community. But he'll also probably never escape what's bound to be his lifelong legacy (at least where Google is concerned): it's he who served as the Neil Armstrong of the Angelina Jolie right leg posing phenomenon, not only boldly going where no man (or meme) had yet gone before, but doing it in front of millions at the Academy Awards.
Not that he had any notion of just what, exactly, he'd started at the time.
Rash dropped by E! News today and spilled all on his infamous posing...including whether or not he's felt any Brangelina backlash in the wake of his one-man stance.
MORE: Angelina Jolie's Right Leg: Behold the Five Greatest Photo Manips of Oscar's Breakout Star

Firstly, Jim noted that his sudden pervasiveness has caught him off guard. Particularly as his newfound fame was a result of a split-second decision to mirror Angie's unnatural stance rather than his actual winning of an Oscar.
"I did not expect that to happen," he told E! News of his Internet infamy. "I was like, really? This is what I'm becoming known for?"
He also made clear that his identi-pose was not meant to mock, and that he wasn't looking to "burn" her.
"My argument is, I felt she was owning that....She even chuckled beforehand, so I thought, 'That's a great way for me to sort of own this proud moment.'
"As soon as she got up there, she sort of chuckled and I thought she was sort of like saying, 'Check this out, I'm gonna work this dress.' And she did. So I was like, 'Well, I'm gonna work my tux'…I wish it had a slit down the side, because I have amazing legs."
MORE: Gam on: Angie's Leg Lands Its Own Twitter Account!
And Rash had even more to say on the topic.
He said that while he's heard from practically every corner of the world wide web, he has yet to hear from either Brad Pitt or Angelina herself about his onstage pose. Not that he'd have any trouble explaining to them the love behind his antics.
"If they wanted me to come to a pool party and explain that to their face, I would. I hope I have not burned some bridges. I did pass Brad on the way out and nothing happened…he didn't punch me or anything. My face is still perfect."
Right along with that sense of humor of his. And try as either side might to avoid it, there's no getting around the fact that the odd couple is now permanently linked in cyberspace.
"When you Google our names together, we share links. We're linked now…Jimgelina."
A star is born.

The gospel on celebrity and pop culture

Angelina Jolie's leg has taken on a life of its own

Angelina Jolie's leg has taken on a life of its own.
Angelina Jolie's leg is turning out to be more than just a flash in the pan. (You see what we did there?) Between the Twitter feed, the legbombing photo meme and the rash of talk-show hosts competively "Jolieing" on camera, it's hard to keep up.
Jolie flashed it first on the Oscars red carpet Sunday, of course, and then daringly repeated the arms-akimbo, bare-leg-out-to-there pose during the telecast before presenting the Oscar for adapted screenplay.
The next to flaunt it, almost immediately afterward? "Community" actor and "The Descendants" screenwriter Rash, one of those to whom Jolie presented the Oscar, who similarly struck the post heard 'round the world while holding his shiny new statuette.
Rash on Tuesday revealed to E! News the impetus behind his mimicry of Jolie's pose, which he witnessed from his seat in the theater while awaiting the winner's name: "As soon as I saw her, I said, 'God, if we went up there ... that's a great way to own that moment,' because that's what I thought she was doing."
Others Jolieing — like "Tebowing" but for girls — since then include Giuliana Rancic on E!, Kelly Ripa with Lucy Liu on "Live!," and the hosts of "The Talk," all clad in black gown (even though Sharon Osbourne said she considered Angie's move to be "trying too hard").
Then there's the "legbombing," which the "Today" show had fun with Tuesday. Angie's right leg is getting Photoshopped into pictures past and present, including one shot where it's doubled up on Jolie herself. (According to Twitter, that pic is the right leg's favorite.) Think of it added to the Statue of Liberty, the moon landing, the Last Supper ... you get the idea.
The @angiesleg Twitter account by Tuesday was had more than 36,000 followers. In appropriately A-list fashion, Angelina's right leg follows only two other entities on Twitter: J. Lo's nipple — that's a whole 'nother Oscars story — and Bradley Cooper's mustache.
"Great meeting most of you for the first time last night at the Oscars!!," Angelina's right leg said Monday on Twitter, adding, "Left leg and I talked — everything's cool. Next Oscars, she gets the slit." See Rash's full take on seizing the moment, below, and tell us in comments where you've seen Angelina's right leg recently.
