Angelina and her children had dinner at Benihana in Chelsea, London Saturday. Brad wasn't with them as he flew in to New Orleans late Friday. She was recognized at the restaurant by a couple of Syrian expats who approached her and they chatted briefly about the situation in Syria. Angelina has been vocal in her support of the Arab Spring and had expressed the hope that
Blood and Honey would help spur world leaders to act decisively to stop the bloodshed in Syria. She previously visited Syrian refugee camps in Turkey and on World Refugee Day the UNHCR announced that she donated $100K specifically to assist Syrian refugees.

UNHCR and partners seek $193 million to help Syrian refugees
GENEVA, June 28 (UNHCR) – The
UN Refugee Agency and more than 40 other humanitarian aid organizations
on Thursday appealed to donors for urgent new funds to help meet the
needs of growing numbers of Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey
and Iraq.

|
They
had originally appealed in March for $84.1 million, but said increasing
numbers of refugees meant $193 million would now be needed to help the
almost 100,000 Syrian refugees. This figure is more than double the
number in March and more people keep leaving their beleaguered country.
"The
governments and host communities of Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey
have shown tremendous generosity and hospitality to Syrian refugees,"
said Panos Moumtzis, UNHCR's regional coordinator for Syrian refugees.
"It is essential that the international community steps up its support
for relief operations for refugees."
In
the last three months, humanitarian agencies in neighbouring countries
have been registering an average of more than 500 Syrian refugees a day.
The updated appeal anticipates that by the end of 2012, there could be
185,000 refugees, due to new arrivals and existing refugees in
neighboring countries requesting assistance or protection.
Moumtzis
noted that around 75 percent of Syrian refugees were women and
children. "Most are entirely dependent on life-saving humanitarian
assistance," he stressed.
In
Jordan and Lebanon, most refugees live among host communities, with a
small number in Jordan living in transit facilities close to the border.
In Turkey, Syrian refugees are hosted in camps provided by the
government. In Iraq, the majority are living in the Kurdistan region,
with increasing numbers moving to Domiz camp in the northern province of
Dohuk.
The
original appeal anticipated that only 1,500 Syrians would flee to Iraq.
However, by mid-June, more than 6,000 Syrian refugees had been
registered in northern Iraq. Meanwhile, increasing numbers are reported
to have arrived in central and southern Iraq. In the past month the
Kurdistan Regional Government made the decision that all Syrian refugees
should be hosted in camps. Two thirds are awaiting relocation at Domiz
camp.
Fior
Iraq, the fresh appeal outlines shelter, registration, protection,
food, water, sanitation, health and education support for refugees in
camps as well as assistance for those remaining in urban areas.
In
Jordan, more than 27,000 Syrian refugees have registered with UNHCR.
Local charities estimate that around 50,000 Syrian refugees are
currently receiving assistance. Registered Syrian refugees are granted
free access to health services and their children are welcomed in local
schools. The appeal identifies the main needs of refugees in Jordan as
being rental payments, basic household items, access to health care,
water and sanitation, food and education. Support to host communities is
also planned.
In
Lebanon, more than 29,000 Syrian refugees are being assisted. Many live
with host families, who themselves struggle to make ends meet. Among
the most pressing needs are permission to move freely, food and basic
household items, shelter, medical care, education and psychosocial
support.
In
Turkey, 33,000 Syrian refugees are hosted in camps in the four border
provinces of Hatay, Sanliurfa, Gaziantep and Kilis. New arrivals are
rapidly settled in the camps prepared by the Turkish authorities and set
up by the Turkish Red Crescent. Assistance to Syrian refugees in camps
and technical advice to the government of Turkey is envisaged within the
appeal. In addition, support for the increasing number of Iraqi and
Somali refugees who have fled Syria for towns and cities in Turkey is
planned.
The
plan is a result of the coordinated efforts of 44 international and
national agencies involved in responding to the needs of Syrian refugees
in four countries, as well as support to host communities. This
includes UNHCR, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the
UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the
World Food Programme (WFP), as well as host governments and local and
international NGOs.
UNHCR and partners continue to assist some 90,000 mainly Iraqi refugees in different parts of Syria.
If the tweets are to be believed Brad arrived in New Orleans only yesterday but will be at the
Stone Roses concert in Manchester, UK tonight (Saturday). The problem with fan tweet sightings is you never know if they merely spotted a
doppelganger or are relaying 2nd-hand reports rather than actual first
person sightings. I tend to believe he is still in NOLA since the Stone Roses tweets suggest he was expected to attend but no one has reported actually seeing him there. And Angelina isn't in Manchester to attend the concert but with the kids
in London.

Maleficent has quickly taken over the
Richard Attenborough Stage at Pinewood Studios.
Les Mis had
been using the stage for the last few months and it finally wrapped just last week. The impressive Grand Hall set that was photographed and leaked online by a crew member may have been set up in another stage, possibly the even larger 007.
The Attenborough and the 007 are the 2 largest stages in Pinewood.

Extras that took part in the filming of the Brad Pitt zombie movie
World War Z in Falmouth may have to wait a little longer to see
themselves on the big screen.
Reports filtering out from Hollywood suggest the movie has been
delayed for reshoots after it was decided that the ending needed to be
changed.
The Hollywood Reporter has said that Prometheus screenwriter Damon
Lindelof has been brought in to rewrite sections of the film.
Lindelof is expected to work primarily on the movie's third act, with
reshoots ordered by producers to take place in September and October.
The release date has been pushed back from December 2012
to June 2013.
The town went Brad mad last summer when he arrived to shot scenes from the movie.
Hundreds of extras were drafted in to be background crowd and zombies
during the shoot, with Brad and his partner Angelina Jolie staying at
the nearby Nansloe Manor Hotel in Helston.
During the shoot, the SD Salmoor, an admiralty salvage vessel, could be seen in
Falmouth Docks with people on deck, dressed in dark greens, browns and khaki
clothing.

Considering that she never steps out looking anything short of
perfect, it’s no surprise that UK women's ‘dream’ look heavily features
Cheryl Cole.

And prize for most wanted lips goes to
Angelina Jolie, of course, whose naturally full pout has had the world fascinated for decades.

After the success of
MI4 Cruise quickly signed on to a slew of action-oriented films that are now either awaiting release, in pre-production or officially announced.
Cruise's next film, the action thriller
Jack Reacher, is set for
Christmas release and an international trailer leaked online the day
after his separation/ pending divorce became public. He then has the sci-fi
Oblivion
which is due in April 2013 and is currently undergoing additional filming
in Iceland. I would guess these are anxious times for Paramount and
Universal respectively especially given the already weak box office
performance of
Rock of Ages which will likely end up in the red for Warner.
Cruise also has
Top Gun 2, MI5, a
Magnificent Seven remake and a
Van Helsing remake lined up.
MI5 is a safe bet to proceed but the studios will probably want to wait and see how the public receives
Jack Reacher before greenlighting the remaining films.
MI3 did not do very well when it was released shortly after his couch jumping appearance on Oprah and contentious interview with Matt Lauer.
The spectre of the similarly disgraced Mel Gibson now looms over Cruise as the public is again being presented with details of his Scientology practice. While he is younger and a much bigger star than Gibson was when his troubles started, there are also a number of popular young stars like Channing Tatum and Chris Hemsworth who've successfully led action films and can be cast in his place. Almost all of the films Cruise is signed up for are action thrillers.
It's hard to imagine that this won't have some effect on Cruise's bankability especially for a generic action film like
Reacher. Fans of Lee Child's novels already scoffed when the 5'7" Cruise was cast to be Jack Reacher who is 6'5" and built like a tank in the books.
