London Pad tale

Just like The Sun's previous (false) story that Angelina would star in a Danny Boyle film right after WWZ , this has all the markings of another fantasy tale -- and not just because The Sun sits at the bottom of the tabloid credibility totem pole.  Fantasy real estate purchases seem to be a tabloid favorite often aided by enterprising real estate agents eager to gain some easy publicity for their properties.  Similar real estate stories have emerged from other cities they've visited or filmed in:  a $25M condo in Manhattan after Salt, a $40M Italian estate after The Tourist, beach front property in Croatia after she promoted Blood & Honey, an apartment in Berlin, and then there was the memorable Christmas gift of a California waterfall to recreate Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water early this year.  We can certainly give the tabloids credit for thinking of imaginative ways to entertain their readers with escapist fantasies.

There are other reasons to doubt this latest real estate story  First, because a more credible source identified a different, much more modern property as the one they rented last year.  While they were staying in Long Island during the filming of Salt there were similar erroneous reports that they rented a large but musty Tudor-style estate when they actually rented Rupert Murdoch's more modest Centre Island home.

Second because old world style has never been their "style" -- witness the renovations in Miraval to give it a more "contemporary feel" and the modern design of the Malibu house they sold.   3rd because Disney will be shouldering most of the family's housing expenses while Maleficent is filming so it wouldn't make sense for them to shell out for property they could already use for free.

Fourth because the two other films that are supposed to keep them in London are The Counselor which is actually set in the Southwest border with Mexico and the mysterious Danny Boyle project no one else has heard of (unless he has a surprise part for her in the Olympics).

And 5th, because they've already said they had enough properties to look after.  From an investment management point of view,  they hardly need more real estate assets that are non-revenue generating and expensive to maintain in their portfolio.  Assuming Forbes' $270M estimate of their net worth is accurate, they would not park more than a third of that in real estate considering they are not in the property business.

Angelina hasn't starred in a film since 2010 and Blood & Honey likely ended up costing her.  Most of her income last year probably came from her share of gross and ancillaries from The Tourist and Salt.  Brad meanwhile has been focusing more on less commercial fare.  His last big hit was Inglourious Basterds in 2009.  His last two films were major Awards players but made very little money.  (Something Graham King can emphasize with.)  Moneyball made $110M worldwide on a budget of $50M while Tree of Life made $54M on $32M.  When you add  P&A expenses and deduct the theaters' roughly 50% share, they're left dependent on ancillaries to generate most of their profits.  So Brad probably didn't get much if anything on the back-end on top of his fee which was already discounted.  He also likely took a cut for his work last year on the small-budget Killing Them Softly.   His main source of income for the year was probably World War Z which he and his Plan B helped produce with the hope of turning it into a franchise.   In short, they are not swimming in the kind of cash that would allow them to throw money around the way the tabloids imagine them doing.  That sort of spending can only be done by billionaires living in an even more rarefied world.   Even if Angelina already received the bulk of her fee for Maleficent, it's unlikely that she would spend almost all of it on a house they will only use for a few months.

Perhaps there is a variation of Newton's law of motion that can account for why people are so obsessed with whether they'll have more of what they already have a lot of -- be it houses or children.

Below pictures of the house they supposedly actually rented which seems much more their style than the rustic house in The Sun:

(UPDATE:  With sources close to them and the property's owner now denying the Sun's story, both it and the Daily Mail took down their reports.  But such is the demand for stories related to them that every tidbit is guaranteed a ton of hits and even People surprisingly succumbed to the temptation to piggyback along. )

So True? So False? Did Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Just Spend $16 Million on a Home in London?!

Beverly Hills, New Orleans, France—where don't Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt live?! It certainly wouldn't be much of a stretch to have their family of eight setting up a home base in England, too, right?

Sure enough, The Sun is reporting that the betrothed actors have plunked down $16 million for Whornes Place, an estate in the West London town of Richmond.

The price is easily in Jolie and Pitt's wheelhouse, they spend tons of time across the pond and London is just downright swingin'. Then again, they've already got a place in the relatively nearby south of France.

Alert the royal family, ladies and gents, because this story is...

So false! (Looks like Prince William and Kate Middleton will have to be content with just Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz living nearby for now.)

"They have not bought that property," a source confirms to E! News. Jolie, Pitt and the pitter-patter of 12 feet are familiar with Whornes Place, however—it is where the family stayed between May and September of last year for a reported $50,000 a month while Pitt wrapped World War Z.

But, though they're setting up shop in London for awhile, they've chosen to rest their heads elsewhere.

"They are staying in a gated community in Oxfordshire," the source says. "They are going to be in London for quite a long time and the plan so far is that they are going to move around between different rental properties so they can enjoy some privacy. Right now they are not planning on buying anything in London.

"Bear in mind," the insider added, "Angelina has bought and sold here before. She used to own a home in Buckinghamshire but sold it because she doesn't spend enough time in the U.K. to justify a purchase. Angelina and Brad only come to England for work, not for vacations."

And, unlike how it was with the French chateau they at first leased and then bought last year, the owner of Whornes Place—"a very successful businessman," our source says—isn't interested in selling right now.

With Angelina Jolie shooting Disney's Maleficent in the U.K., she and Brad Pitt have bought a $16 million mansion in Richmond, West London, according to the Sun tabloid.

The engaged couple previously rented the residence, called Whornes Place, last year, while Pitt was filming the zombie movie World War Z. The monthly rent was reportedly close to $50,000.

As for amenities, the house is not lacking for much, says the paper. There's an indoor swimming pool – perfect when you have six kids – and decorative touches are said to include 15th century wooden beams.

A source told the Sun: "They like the culture and are happy for their children to receive schooling here. They think Richmond is a beautiful part of the world."

Reps for the couple could not be reached.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have purchased a lavish £10million mansion in Richmond, London, according to reports.

The Hollywood super couple fell in love with the property while renting it for £30,000 a month last summer when Brad Pitt was in the UK filming his zombie thriller, World War Z.

The pair think that Whornes Place, which has an indoor pool and 15th century wooden beams, would be the perfect place for their six children to be based over the next two years while Angelina Jolie is in the UK filming three movies back-to-back.

'They loved it when they were in the UK last year,' a source tells The Sun newspaper.

'They like the culture and are happy for their children to receive schooling here. They think Richmond is a beautiful part of the world.'

Adding, 'Angelina starts work on her next film, Maleficent, in about three weeks so Brad will look after their brood over summer as he won’t start work on the Ridley Scott film until September.'

The recently engaged couple are expected to tie the knot on August 11th at their £25million French château in the village of Correns.

Helicopter to tiff

Love is in the air, literally: Brad Pitt swoops into Richmond and whisks Angelina Jolie away on a helicopter

By Daily Mail Reporter

Last updated at 12:59 PM on 9th September 2011

It was like a scene from one of their films, as Brad Pitt swooped down to collect Angelina Jolie before whisking her away to an unknown destination on a helicopter.

The Fight Club actor has been filming his new project World War Z in Glasgow, to-ing and fro-ing between Scotland and Surrey, where Jolie is looking after the children.

And having been separated again this week because of shooting commitments, the couple appeared to have scheduled in some alone time, with the adults jetting off and leaving the brood with a carer.

Brad looked every inch the Hollywood hunk as he clutched his obligatory caffeine fix, while his aides helped him off the aircraft and onto the ground.

His long hair, nearly reaching his shoulders, waved around in the wind as he touched down in a pair of brown preppy slacks and V-neck jumper to match.

Despite obviously being elated with his arrival, earlier in the day Angelina had made the most of Brad's absence, by spending a day to herself for a change.

After spending the summer entertaining her active brood of six children every day, Jolie looked excited to be enjoying a rare day out alone today in London - and she dressed up for special occasion.

Most often seen in flat ballet shoes in her time off, the 5ft 8in actress stepped out in stiletto boots, a floating grey skirt and designer sunglasses as she got into a car that was waiting for her in the Soho street.

As she stepped into the crowd of fans trying to take her picture, the 36-year-old held a wad of paper in her hand marked with bright pink Post It notes, prompting speculation that she may be reading a new script.

Brad was later seen arriving home from a tough day at the office in his favourite form of transport - a helicopter.

The Tourist star took the summer off from her own movie career to follow Brad around Europe while he shoots his zombie action film.

It has left Jolie with plenty of time to spend with their six children, Maddox, ten, Zahara, seven, Pax, six, Shiloh, five, and three-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.

Their travels have included living in Malta, Scotland and England, and Angelina has gone to great lengths to make sure the children didn't get bored wherever they stayed.

Along with trips to bowling alleys, cinemas and pottery painting, the Salt star introduced them to the local cultures of their adopted home lands such as a visit to aquariums in both Malta and London.

She's even introduced them to the 'arts' by taking the budding actors to the theatre to see West End musicals, Shrek and Wicked.

It will be back to work soon for the movie star when she begins promoting her directorial début, In the Land of Blood and Honey, which tells the story of how a couple's romance is affected by the Bosnian war.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair magazine, Angelina opened up about Brad and revealed how he helped her with her first directorial project.

With world-famous actors as their parents, it comes as little surprise that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's children have turned out to be film buffs.
This afternoon, the pair were spotted taking their brood for another trip to the cinema to pass the time while they are staying in Richmond as Brad films his new movie World War Z.
And this time, the famous pair treated their six children to a viewing of The Smurfs 3D, after previously having taken them to see Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part II and Mr. Popper's Penguins at the Odeon cinema in Richmond.

Judging by their expressions as they left the cinema, Pax, Shiloh, Vivienne, Knox, Maddox and Zahara had all enjoyed the partly-animated movie, which features the voices of stars including Katy Perry and Alan Cumming.
Angelina, dressed in her usual black ensemble, kept a tight hold of her three-year-old daughter Vivienne, clutching Zara with her other hand.
Brad, meanwhile, was in charge of keeping an eye on Vivienne's twin brother Knox, and looked casual in his taupe chinos and jumper combination.

Party 'til you pass out!
As Brad Pitt continued shooting World War Z at Longcross Studios outside London, his love Angelina Jolie found just the thing to keep their six kids happy, entertained...and tuckered out!
On Saturday, Jolie, 36, dazzled her brood -- Maddox, 10, Pax, 7, Zahara, 6, Shiloh, 5, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 3 -- with something special in the garden of their rented home in London's Richmond neighborhood.
"All of the kids were in the garden to play and she surprised them with a local group of children's entertainers," a source tells Us Weekly of the sunny day.
"Think juggling, game organising, races, that type of thing."
A source tells Us Weekly that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been keeping their brood entertained by hiring children's entertainers to come to their house in London's Richmond neighborhood.
"The company is Amanda's Action Kids," says the source, adding that it's also a favorite of the Beckham family. "[Founder Amanda Frolich] has her own album which she uses at parties and classes in West London."
"The kids laughed and screamed all day. They were exhausted by the time the troupe left!"
Celebrity spotters in London look set for an Indian summer with the news that Brangelina will be staying in the Capital a bit longer than planned.

Delays in the shooting schedule of Brad Pitt’s new film - a zombie flick called World War Z, are keeping the Hollywood A-lister and wife Angelina Jolie in London.
It means the super-star couple, here with their six children, have had to enroll them at a primary school in south west London.
So the pair, who belong to a species of uber-celeb so famous they share a common name, will be around for a while yet for fans to enjoy.
Richmond has been headquarters this summer for Pitt and Jolie, who are renting a large property in the area to house their brood of youngsters.

Pottery in Richmond and Dinner in London

The brood is all back together! Brad Pitt joins Angelina Jolie to take their children out for dinner on the Kings Road

By Sarah Fitzmaurice

Earlier in the day one half of Brangelina had taken their brood on a creative day out.

But later in the evening Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie reunited for a family meal out in London.

The famous family made their way to Benihana, a Japenese restaurant on the Kings Road last night.

Brad, 47, had taken time out from filming his latest movie World War Z to spend some quality time with Angelina and their six-strong brood.

And given the size of the family they were seen arriving in a large people carrier.

Brad was dressed in a pair of camel coloured trousers and a cream knitted cardigan and the actor also donned a pair of thick rimmed glasses.

Meanwhile Angelina opted for an all-black ensemble, very different to her white dress she had worn earlier in the day.

Earlier in the day the Salt actress, 36, took her children to the Pottery Café in the town for an afternoon of decorating ceramics.

Jon visits Richmond

Jolie-Pitt Kids Spend Afternoon Out with Grandpa

Tuesday August 30, 2011 04:30 PM EDT
While mom Angelina Jolie and dad Brad Pitt were otherwise engaged, their children took time Saturday to hang out with their grandfather, Jon Voight.

The Oscar winner, 72, took Shiloh, 5, Zahara, 6 and Pax, 7, out to stretch their legs on Richmond Green, a grassy area not far from their rental home in the London suburb.

"There was a cricket match on so they just stopped to have a look," an onlooker tells PEOPLE. "Jon explained to the children what was going on [with the game] … it was a really traditional English scene."

Next up: a frozen summer treat.

"Then they just crossed the green and went to the ice cream van on the corner," the source added. "They seemed really close and happy, and Jon's [companion] was throwing Zahara's teddy bear in the air and pretending to make it fly. It was all just lots of kiddie stuff and the children really seemed to be enjoying themselves."

The family – in the U.K. while Pitt films World War Z – have been splitting their time between Richmond and their temporary home in Scotland.

"Angelina is now doing bits of work herself, and Brad is obviously busy with his filming, [and] there are obviously times when the childcare clashes," the source says. "So it's a case of Grandpa to the rescue!"

Settling in to life in Richmond: Angelina Jolie takes Shiloh and Zahara to their favourite local toy shop

They have been taking in the sights and sounds of London and given their bank balance Hollywood A-listers Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt could spoil their brood rotten.

But today the Salt actress decided to take her actress to a family-run toyshop in Richmond, one she visited two weeks ago.

Angelina, 36, went on a low-key shopping spree with two of her daughters Shiloh, five, and Zahara, six.

The threesome visited Toy Station in Richmond, a local shop they have visited before.

Speaking to MailOnline Karen Khatchik, who runs the store with her husband and sister-in-law said: 'She bought lots of small items like craft-making, stickers, tattoos, they were things for a trip they have planned.'

But while Jolie and beau Brad could afford to buy the entire stock in the shop Karen said the mother-of-six spent no more than her other customers.

Angelina Jolie and Kids Go on Toy Store Shopping Spree

Toy Story, starring Angelina Jolie!

With Brad Pitt shooting World War Z in London and throughout the UK this summer, the 36-year-old actress bided her time on Monday with a trip to The Toy Station, a boutique near the family's rented estate in the city's posh Richmond neighborhood.

Jolie came armed with a big list of goodies for Zahara and siblings Maddox, 10, Pax, 7, Shiloh, 5, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 3: sticker kits, tattoo transfers, craft making accessories, Play-Doh, dress-up accessories, "Ben 10" action figures, cowboy guns and a soap-making kit.

It's not the movie star's first visit to the Toy Station, store owner Karen Khatchik tells Us Weekly. "They are a lovely family and we have really enjoyed their visits," Khatchik says. "The children are all so well behaved. They'll point things out to Angelina and she's always interested in what they have to say."

Why the shopping spree? An insider explains that the family is set to leave for Glasgow, Scotland shortly, where Pitt's zombie flick will continue to film. "Angelina wanted to buy items for the children that would keep them entertained when they leave," the source says.

"She doesn't spoil the children. They are always allowed to buy a few things, but mostly small items. She doesn't do things over the top," says Khatchik, who adds that Jolie stopped and chatted with her shy 12-year-old daughter.

And the Tourist star was receptive to compliments about her cute kids, too.

"I told Angelina that Shiloh is adorable and the spitting image of her father," Khatchik said of Pitt, 47. "She smiled and agreed with me."

Inside Angelina Jolie’s London Toy-Shopping Spree With Shiloh & Zahara!

August 15th, 2011 5:20 pm / Author: Laura Lane

It was a ladies’ shopping date for Angelina Jolie and daughters Zahara and Shiloh Jolie-Pitt on Monday morning in London where she taught them two attributes important for any celebrity child who will one day inherit millions — how to share and how to keep to a somewhat-modest budget.

Angie brought her two daughters to the Toy Station shop in Richmond, London, where the girls picked out costumes and art supplies, and made sure not to forget about their four other siblings who weren’t lucky enough to join the threesome for the shopping spree.

“They liked the stickers and the Play-Doh and they were saying, ‘Mom, look at this — it’s really cool!’ ” Toy Station owner Karen Khatachik tells OK!. “She was asking them if the other children who weren’t with her would like different things she had chosen. She showed them craft-making sets and asked, ‘Would they like that?’”

Angelina mentioned the family was planning an upcoming trip and needed to stock up on goodies — especially art supplies, a favorite for the mom of six.

“They bought make-your-own soaps, make-your-own bracelets and Scratch Art,” says Karen. “It’s a blackboard and it’s done in a design with a gold foil underneath and you scratch it off and the image appears.”

The Jolie-Pitt kids are known for their love of dressing up, and bought multiple themed outfits, including a cowboy-and-gun set that Angelina said was for one of the three-year-old twins, pirate-themed tattoos and stickers and a Ben 10 superhero outfit.

“Ben 10 is a superpower boy character and he has a wristwatch and he gets aliens to help him,” explains Karen. “But his outfit isn’t like an alien, it’s just green trousers and a white T-shirt with a Ben 10 logo on it.”

Angelina has a knack for finding local toy stores wherever they’re traveling. They’ve already shopped at the Toy Station on two other occasions in London, where Brad Pitt’s shooting World War Z, and the family are regulars at Lee’s Art Shop in New York City when they visit.

OK! NEWS: ANGELINA JOLIE EXPLAINS WHY SHE & BRAD PITT ARE TAKING ON “FEWER FILMS”

Although budget might not necessarily be a concern for Angelina, who can make up to $20 million per film, when it came to spending she made sure to set limits — one bag to be exact.

“She did say, ‘I think we’ve got enough now’ after they had a bag full,” says Karen, who wouldn’t give specifics on how much Angelina spent but says the amount was modest. “I didn’t think they overly bought. They didn’t go to town with it or anything. She shopped like that last time she came. She chose a few bits to entertain.”

While Zahara and Shiloh likely had a pretty good day shopping with Mom, one person who was extra-excited about the encounter was Anya, the shop owner’s daughter.

“I introduced my daughter to her because my daughter was afraid to say hello to her the last time she saw her,” says Karen, who added that Angelina signed a card for the shop’s 15-year anniversary. “She told her that she was really sweet and her name was Angelina and she was very pleased to meet her.”

Talk about a nice day visiting Mom at work!
