In a cinematic short film titled “Perfetto Moment,” Pitt leisurely rides his motorcycle to a local café to grab a bag of his favorite coffee beans. On the way back home he stops to have his bike serviced and quietly soaks up the picturesque L.A. scenery. Once he arrives, he indulges in an espresso brewed with the brand’s newest product—the automated bean-to-cup Dinamica Plus.

Chazelle’s subtle direction and the efforts of two additional Oscar winners, cinematographer Linus Sandgren and composer Justin Hurwitz—both of whom worked with Chazelle on La La Land—culminate in an a spot that exudes warmth. Creative agency MC Saatchi Milan led the project with stateside support through Current Global’s PR, media planning by AOR Wavemaker and creative adaptation by agency The Woo.

Esquire

Brad Pitt is adamant that he is not a style guy. “If I have a style, it’s no style,” he tells me over the phone. I, for my part, disagree. There’s a damn good reason Esquire has covered his red-carpet and off-duty looks with some regularity over the years, and it’s not just because he’s Brad Fuckin’ Pitt, one of The Last True Movie Stars. It’s because, whether he’s hitting the red carpet in classic black tie or teaching an impromptu master class on casual dressing while popping out for coffee, the man seems to have an innate idea of what works for him when it comes to getting dressed. (Being Brad Fuckin’ Pitt does help, though.)

“I like monochrome, without it being a uniform,” he explains. “I like simplicity. I like the details in the stitching, the way it feels. If anything, that’s the only divining rod I have.”

“It’s led by comfort,” he continues. “I like the feel of a Leica camera or the way a watch feels. I don’t want to look ostentatious, but if you come close, you notice. I like how the lining feels. It’s those details that are important to me. It’s too exhausting to follow trends. And I despise billboards; I just don’t want to be billboard.”

He is, though, willing to rep for the brands he really loves, which is why we’re talking in the first place. Pitt just signed on to be the face of the latest campaign for the Italian coffeemaking experts at De’Longhi. “I am a serious, professional, committed coffee drinker,” he says. “Usually a three-cappuccino drinker in the morning, and depending on the work in the afternoon, I might switch over to an espresso.” As my nerves start rattling in sympathetic caffeine overload, he explains why he decided to work with De’Longhi. “I try to do very few of these things,” he says. “But for me, it made sense to take a ride with De’Longhi. When you have confidence in your product, you don’t have to shove it down people’s throats. You can do it nicely.”

In practice, that translates to a video directed by Damien Chazelle, featuring Pitt riding his motorcycle along the coast to pick up fresh beans before returning home and to enjoy a cappuccino. Though he’s quick to admit days like that don’t happen all that often, Pitt calls it “a little slice of life.” And true to life, instead of wearing something supplied by a costume department, he’s wearing a jacket of his own—one that happens to encapsulate Pitt’s sense of style pretty perfectly, and one that I’m pretty damn sure I’ve seen before.

“Yes, you have!” Pitt confirms. “It’s Loro Piana, it’s cashmere, and if I make it to 86, I’ll be wearing it with moth holes. It’s expensive, but if I’m able to wear it for 30 years, it won’t be in the long run. It’s so simple, so sleek. To me, it’s perfect.” That sounds like someone who’s tapped into foundational elements of personal style so deeply that he’s basically bypassed the language necessary to explain them, “non-style” guy or not. Plus, the thing is comfy. And as 57-year-old Pitt explains to me, “You get older, you get crankier, and comfort becomes more important. I think it’s as simple as that.”

March 18, Thursday

Filming an ad in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of LA.

Maybe, maybe not.  There is shadow and curvature but seems most likely to be sun shining through his gloves.

Same jewelry he had filming Bullet Train but different watch.  Unlike with Bullet Train, they're covered by his gloves so will likely not be seen in the ad.

Chanel No. 5

Now That Brad Pitt's the New Face of Chanel No. 5, Will Angelina Wear the Brand?

The actress is famously partial to Versace and Elie Saab.

1:09 PM PDT 5/9/2012 by Merle Ginsberg

Just like in every other business, fashion is based on relationships. Emma Stone and Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, for instance, are associated with Lanvin. They have friendships with the label's designer, Alber Elbaz, and often wear the brand on the red carpet. Same with Angelina Jolie and Versace (and lately, with Elie Saab and Jenny Packham). But all of that could change now that Brad Pitt's been named the new face of famed perfume Chanel No. 5.

Pitt is the first man ever to be the face of the women's scent, which has featured Nicole Kidman, Vanessa Paradis, Audrey Tatou, Ali MacGraw and Lauren Hutton in the history of its ad campaigns. (Other actresses, like Keira Knightley, have done campaigns for Mademoiselle and for Chanel eyewear.)

While we've NEVER seen Jolie wear anything by Chanel, since her allegiances lie elsewhere, we're wondering -- since Pitt is shooting his first Chanel No. 5 ad in London this week - whether Chanel reps will slip him a few Cannes gowns for his fiance. Plus, Chanel will have a suite at Cannes that will have plenty of new couture for Jolie to choose from. We're placing a bet on this one -- she's prime to add Chanel to her fashion repertoire. It's only a matter of time!

Brad Pitt Is the New Face of Chanel No. 5!

Yes, it's a scent for a woman, but if ever there was a man pretty enough to render that particular point moot, it's Brad Pitt.
Proving yet again that his musky appeal knows no bounds, E! News has exclusively learned that Angelina Jolie's better half has signed on as the new face of Chanel's signature No. 5 scent.

Reps for neither Pitt nor the perfume house have commented on the new partnership, but a source tells E! News that the actor will be shooting his first perfume ad in London sometime this week (the superstar family has set up their most recent homestead in the UK).
And for his endorsement troubles, Pitt will be bringing home some serious bacon for the Jolie-Pitt clan, with his paycheck for the spot somewhere in the seven-figures.
The Chanel No. 5 ad will be released overseas sometime later this year. Makes scents to us.

Craiglist Action Film Casting Call Ad (again)

This is the same ad that ran last October for a film with the working title "Insert".  This was before word of Luc Besson's project leaked and there was much speculation over what this mysterious film could be.  The only difference between the Oct ad and the one now is they've dropped  the reference to "sci-fi".  They also added the line that the producers are interested in people who are pursuing a professional acting career even if they are auditioning as extras.  (In short, they need people with some acting ability.)

Assuming this is Besson's, does this mean it's finally a Go? With barely 2 and a half months before Maleficent's scheduled start, I don't think there's time for her to squeeze in another film.  So does this mean she will jump straight into this after she wraps in London?  Brad did it last year when he went from Killing Them Softly to World War Z so it isn't without precedent in their household although it would come as a bit of surprise.

False Lashes

Long, lush lashes aren’t only for a dramatic nighttime affair. We loved Angelina Jolie’s eye at the 3rd Annual Women in the World Summit, which was subtle but still stood out. For a daytime or more casual look, consider only doing a half set or trimming falsies (before you apply!) with a manicure scissor. Take a tip from Angelina and keep the rest of your makeup soft and natural.

Action Sci-Fi Casting Post

UPDATE:  The CraigList classified listings for TV/film jobs on Sunday included a new post from apparently the same agency that placed last week's "major motion picture w/ Angelina Jolie" casting call, this time for a "major motion picture with an all star cast".  But no names were given and no further details were provided as to logline or genre.  Auditions will take place at the same address on Broadway which is a known hub for casting activity.  While the post for Angelina's film with the working title "Insert" was up all week and the link still works, the post is no longer visible in the daily listings.

One thing that is apparent from this is that the "Insert" post didn't need to identify Angelina.  It could have just said "with an A-List star" or "Oscar winner" or somesuch.  But they specifically ID'd her and included the working title of the film and the genre -- a lot more info than they provided for this week's film.

So does all this bolster the case that the post is authentic and Angelina is about to start filming an action sci-fi set in the future?  Perhaps.  I've been working on the assumption that it is just because it doesn't make sense to me that anyone would need or want to fabricate such info just to get more applicants.  Not in NYC anyway, and not since they would face the almost certain prospect of lawsuits from all sides.

A casting call classified ad isn't like a fabricated tabloid story in Star, In Touch  or National Enquirer which have been the unintended beneficiaries of the 1st Amendment.  If the info they give is false or misleading the applicants can easily file complaints against them or sue them in court.  And they would probably hear from Angelina's lawyers as well.

===

A casting call for extras usually means that filming is about to start soon -- like in a month or or so.  With dozens and at times hundreds of extras involved, it would be hard to keep track of everyone and keep them on call if the wait were longer.  In contrast, the earlier casting call for Cleopatra was for principal actors only and they often need a long lead time to arrange their schedules.  Daniel Day Lewis and Javier Bardem were said to be interested and both have other commitments they would need to sort out.

So what film is hiding behind the working title of "Insert" and is supposedly an action sci-fi set in the future?  And why keep the title of the movie under wraps but broadcast her involvement in it? Given how normally private and secretive Angelina is, it's a bit surprising that she agreed to have her association with this project used for something as innocuous as an ad recruiting bit players and extras.  The principal actors of Blood & Honey didn't know who was directing the film when they auditioned.

It's possible that Angelina's name is just being used as a draw and she is not involved with the posted film.  But I don't see why anyone would attempt such a ploy since they would have little to gain and a lot to lose. New York has legions of aspiring actors eager to find work on Broadway, TV or film, and some are even willing to work for free in order to burnish their resume.  The casting agents of any film would already be swamped with applicants even without Angelina's name attached to it.  A fraudulent scheme would be quickly exposed and they would face complaints and lawsuits from disgruntled applicants as well as Angelina's legal reps. There is no apparent monetary benefit either as they still have to pay the actors they hire the same professional wages.

It's also possible that she is attached to the film but the announcement with her name wasn't vetted by her reps or higher management.  But with a star of her stature and importance, I don't really see the production co. being so careless and sloppy in handling anything that would have to do with her. And they posted twice so if it was a mistake the first time they would have corrected it.

So it looks to be a legitimate post and the result of a deliberate decision.  She will be facing the press very soon for Blood and Honey and will no doubt be asked about her future projects so they may have wanted the rest of the info to come out from her interviews -- or as an exclusive to a reporter.  It's a  plausible scenario as movie sites fiercely scramble for exclusives.

Unforgiven was originally scheduled to start last May and a NY setting could fit into the story, but such a low profile, relatively low budget film will hardly demand such secrecy or so many extras.  Salt 2 could pick up with Evelyn Salt back in NY since much of the original was filmed there, but it's still very early in its development and it hasn't even made Production Weekly.  We can pretty much rule out Cleopatra which needs a desert setting and extras who can pass for Egyptians.  Ditto The Tiger which is supposed to be set in the Amur tigers' remote wilderness habitat and would not need large crowds in the background -- much less models.

Among her listed films, the most likely bet is Maleficent since Angelina already said it's her next film and it has had recent updates in Production Weekly.  It's a "post-modern" take so it could shoot anywhere and require the bit players and extras described in the post.  It may, however, be a bit of a stretch to describe it as an action sci-fi set in the future.

The other big question relates to who is directing.  The answer may provide clues as to why the title is being kept hidden and help explain why it is filming in NY rather than in a studio lot in L.A.

While I fully expect Angelina to eventually direct and star in the same movie, I don't see her attempting it right away with a big action sci-fi (although Salt 2 is a possibility).

If it is Maleficent and Disney's rumored top choice, David Yates, is the one directing, I don't see why such a collaboration would require secrecy.  Yates may have directed the last four Potters but he doesn't have a strong following on his own from among movie fans or writers.  David Fincher is known to be a control freak and a perfectionist and I could see him requiring the use of a working title but we've already ruled out Cleopatra and he has other commitments that would keep him busy until at least the middle of next year.

This could also be something new altogether.

It has been suggested that the film could be the Wachovski siblings' Jupiter Ascending.  Deadline's Mike Flemming wrote that Warners Bros. "is now discussing which A-list star to lead the cast while keeping the script and logline under tight wraps."  That would explain the use of a working title and an "action sci-fi film set in the future" would be similar to the Wachovskis' successful The Matrix trilogy.  But if it is targeting a Spring start, it may be too early to audition extras who will then have to wait 5 - 6 months.  It doesn't explain the need to cast in NY either.

The planned sequel to Ridley Scott's Blade Runner has also been suggested but Scott will be busy in postproduction with his latest sci-fi, the Alien-related Prometheus until its release in June next year.  And Scott recently revealed that he is still looking for a writer "that might be able to help me deliver" so it is probably at least some months off from production.

After Darren Aronofsky dropped out of Wolverine because he wanted to stay close to his young son in NY,  he was courted for a number of projects including Maleficent and Human Nature -- about a man who is "cryogenically frozen and wakes up years later to a world in which humans have become pets of another species."  Human Nature could fit the posted film's description and Aronofsky's familial obligations could explain the NY location.  But Aronofsky is now said to be prepping his passion project Noah and  targeting a spring 2012 start, although IMDb still doesn't have it listed as being in pre-production.

Evidently, none of the above films is a strong or airtight bet.  Ranking them based on how they match the info:  1) Human Nature, Maleficent or any film directed by Aronofsky, 2) Jupiter Ascending directed by the Wachowskis, 3) Maleficent directed by anyone other than Aronofsky, 4) another project with another director.

One thing we do know for sure is that they would not be auditioning extras for this mystery project if a director was not already firmly on board.  Given that it appears they may be trying to hide the identity of the director(s) as much as the title of the film, it should be pretty big news when it does come out.  Another Mike Flemming Deadline Exclusive?  Or perhaps EW via Anthony Breznican?

We shouldn't have to wait too long.
