Brad Pitt is getting into the Champagne biz, and today brings new details of what the A-list project looks like. Pitt and Angelina Jolie, of course, have been making Château Miraval wine from their Côtes de Provence estate since the 2012 vintage and, with the co-owning Perrin family of the Rhône's Château de Beaucastel, quickly made a name as serious contenders in pink wine.

As we reported in January, the Jolie-Pitts and Perrins would be adding grower Champagne darling Rodolphe Péters, owner of the Pierre Péters maison in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, to their ensemble to create a rosé Champagne, called Champagne Fleur de Miraval. While Marc Perrin may be the more experienced wine guy in the Pitt-Perrin equation, he told Unfiltered via email that “the idea to create the only Champagne house only dedicated to rosé Champagne was Brad's idea."

“It took five years of work between the Perrin and Péters families to fine-tune the blend and the whole aging process," Perrin told us. Fleur de Miraval Exclusivement Rosé, which will be released Oct. 15, is a blend of 75 percent Chardonnay and 25 percent Pinot Noir aged in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for three years. The idea, the team explained in a statement, is to capture the minerality and salinity of Chardonnay combined with the color and fruit aromas of Pinot. The “research and tasting [were] done in the utmost secrecy," said Péters in the statement, adding that the first run of the cuvée will be 1,600 cases. It’s another feather in the cap for the Jolie-Pitt-Perrin partnership that’s been on something of a hot streak in recent years, with new wines and even a new winery.

Watch out wine world! Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie just added another award to their growing mantel filled with Oscars, Golden Globes and SAG Awards -- only this time, the honor is for wine.

The dynamic duo's Chateau Miraval Rosé 2012 was ranked number 84 among Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of the Year, making it the "best Rosé in the world," according to a new press release. Back in March when the wine was first released, all 6,000 bottles sold out within five hours.

Although Jolie, 38, and fiance Pitt, 49, may have helped boost sales with their celebrity, wine experts seem to agree that the Hollywood super-couple can toast to their good taste. Wine Spectator Managing Editor Kim Marcus called the rosé "Refined and elegant, offering pure and concentrated flavors of dried red berry, tangerine and melon. The focused finish features flint and spice notes, with a hint of cream."

In 2012, the Jolie-Pitts partnered with the Perrin family, a fifth-generation winemaking brood located in France's Provence region, to develop their own rosé wine under the Jolie-Pitt & Perrin brand. The wine was created in Château Miraval, the couple's 35-bedroom estate with adjoining 1,200-acre vineyard, which they purchased in 2012 for $60 million. The couple had vacationed at the stunning spot since 2008 with their six children, and Pitt proposed to his longtime love on the property in early 2012.

Perrin general manager Marc Perrin, who has worked closely with the couple to produce the wine, told Unfiltered Magazine in February, "[Brad and Angelina] are involved. He is very interested in wine -- he knows his wine very well... it is fantastic."

This week has been a big one for the Jolie-Pitt clan. The couple and their 13-year-old son Maddox attended the 4th Annual Governors Ball in Hollywood on Saturday, Nov. 16. A tearful, radiant Jolie, who was honored at the event with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her work as a UN Special Envoy, said before a room packed of philanthropic-minded celebrities, "I will do the best I can with this life, to be of use."

In being named  2012's Best Rosé in the World, it also became the first rosé ever to appear in the annual top 100 wines list.

Where it was produced: The wine was developed at the vineyard of Brad and Angelina's 35-bedroom estate, Château Miraval (pictured).

The couple's French chateau is also where Brad proposed to Angelina in early 2012, and where the Jolie-Pitt family reportedly vacationed in May of this year, following Angelina's double mastectomy.

Wine Spectator first to review celebrity couple's project with Beaucastel's Perrin family at Château Miraval

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have released their first wine, a 2012 rosé from their Provence estate, Château Miraval. In a blind tasting of a flight of Provençal rosés at Wine Spectator’s New York office, the wine was refined and elegant, with pure flavors of dried red berry and tangerine, and a focused finish with flint and spice notes. It scored 90 points, or outstanding, on Wine Spectator's 100-point scale.
The Miraval bottling, made in a partnership with the Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel and featuring a distinctive Champagne punt design, can lay claim to being the most anticipated release of a rosé ever seen. The first 6,000 bottles of the wine sold out within five hours after being offered online in France earlier this month. Currently, the wine is being offered in the U.S. at pre-arrival prices from $23 to $28 at select wine shops and will probably retail for about $30 a bottle. About 15,000 cases will be imported, with the first arriving in April.
The Côtes de Provence rosé is a blend of red grapes Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah and white grape Rolle (aka Vermentino). It was made using a combination of direct pressing and the saignée method and vinified primarily in stainless vats. Roughly 5 percent was fermented in oak barrels to give the wine added richness.
According to Perrin & Fils general manager Marc Perrin, Pitt and Jolie participated in the blending sessions for the wine and also helped in the design of the label and the bottle. "It is not a celebrity wine—it is a great terroir and we produce a family wine, so that's why we are there," Perrin told Wine Spectator. The Perrins will distribute the wine from the partnership, which is called “Jolie-Pitt & Perrin,” and will split the profits with the couple. A Provence white is planned for release this summer and a red next year. All grapes for all the wines are grown using organic techniques.
The 1,000-acre estate, which includes about 150 acres of vineyards, is located in the village of Correns and formerly made a rosé known as Pink Floyd, which garnered solid ratings. The previous owners built a studio at the château and the British group recorded their famed rock opera The Wall there in 1979. Pitt and Jolie purchased the 35-room estate for an estimated $60 million last year; they had leased it since 2008 with an option to buy.

The new rosé arrives in April.
