Nice to see Angelina Jolie tonite at a reception she hosted celebrating ROMA. 75 Academy members—mostly actors, directors and writers—were there, including Scott Cooper, Stephen Dorff and Frances Fisher. “I love foreign-language films,” she told me, and she’s very into this one.
Talked to Yaritza Aparicio at Roma event hosted by Angelina Jolie. Told Yaritza about the love for her Vogue Mexico cover on my social media feed and she was touched.
For the many who followed the Oscar race closely this year, there was never any doubt that Alfonso Cuaron, the creative brains behind “Gravity,” would win the Oscar for best director.

His director’s award went much smoother. The prize was handed to him by Angelina Jolie and Sidney Poitier, and Cuaron loved the symmetry that he saw in one of his presenters. He first offered the starring astronaut role in “Gravity” to Jolie, who had to turn it down because of other commitments.
“The fact that Angelina was there presenting, when she was one of the early persons who read the screenplay, it was like full circle,” he says. “I told Angie, ‘You know how beautiful this is?’ She said, ‘I get it. I understand.’ Everything closed in a beautiful way.”

The producer for Best Picture winner “12 Years a Slave” explained all to the media
Brad Pitt’s Sunday ended with an Oscar for producing “12 Years a Slave.” It began less glamorously.
“I had to clean up dog poop today,” he told the media backstage, explaining that it was in his bedroom.

"12 Years a Slave" producers Anthony Katagas,Jeremy Kleiner, Dede Gardner and Brad Pitt and along with director Steve McQueen
"It's important that we
understand our history, not for any kind of guilt but that we understand
who we were so that we can better understand who we are now," says the
producer of the drama.
Speaking shortly after 12 Years a Slave claimed the Oscar best picture, producer Brad Pitt reiterated
the significance of the project to reporters backstage in the press
room -- noting that the title was intended as "a gentle reminder that
we're all equal."
"It's important that we understand our history, not for any kind of
guilt but that we understand who we were so that we can better
understand who we are now, and why we're having the specific problems
we're having or the successes were having," he said. "But most
importantly who we're going to be."
Pitt, along with director Steve McQueen and producers Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Anthony Katagas spoke about the resonance of the film. The acclaimed drama took home three awards, including best adapted screenplay for John Ridley and best supporting actress for Lupita Nyong'o.
"At the end of the day we just hope that this film remains a gentle
reminder that we're all equal," Pitt said. "We all want the same, we
want dignity and opportunity for ourselves and our family."
Pitt praised Nyong'o as "an absolute gem" and made a point to single out actor Chiwetel Ejiofor's "restraint" and "elegance" during his turn as Solomon Northup.
"It's been a long run, and this is very, very, very exciting moment
for us," Pitt said. "It's a real joy and something to ruminate on and
really understand what it all means. At the same time, when the film was
complete, I had this also this extraordinary feeling knowing that this
is a film that will ‑‑ that has legs, that will be around and be
speaking to people for many, many years, and that's the biggest pride."
