Skyfall director of photography Roger Deakins won the Feature Film honor tonight at the 27th annual American Society of Cinematographers
Awards, two years after he won the society’s Lifetime Achievement
Award. Deakins, who didn’t attend because he is working on the Hugh
Jackman-Jake Gyllenhaal movie Prisoners, now becomes a frontrunner for the Oscar in the category, after Life Of Pi‘s director of photography Claudio Miranda won the BAFTA earlier in the day in London. (The ASC Awards noms pretty much mirror the Oscar nominees this year, with Deakins, Miranda, Anna Karenina’s Seamus McGarvery and Lincoln’s Janusz Kaminski nominated by both organizations. The only difference: Les Miserables’ Danny Cohen was up for an ASC Award and not an Oscar, and Django Unchained’s Robert Richardson is up for an Oscar but not an ASC.)
It was Deakins’ third win and 11th nomination for an ASC Award, having won previously for Shawshank Redemption and The Man Who Wasn’t There.
His wife James accepted the award onstage at the ceremony, held at the
Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland. She read a note he had
prepared: “I share this award with everyone who worked on the
production…filmmaking is truly a collaborative privilege.”LA411

Angelina Jolie makes first 2013 red carpet appearance
It's the star's first appearance since buzz spread that she and Brad Pitt got married over the holidays.
While Jennifer Lopez was busy striking an Angelina Jolie pose at the Grammys on Sunday, the real Angelina Jolie was hitting a different red carpet.The star looked lovely in an Atelier Versace dress as she posed for cameras at the 2013 American Society of Cinematographers Outstanding Achievement Awards at the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.
Jolie, 37, presented a lifetime achievement award to Dean Semler, director of photographer on Jolie's In the Land of Blood and Honey.
It's her first appearance on a red carpet this year, and the first since buzz spread that she and Brad Pitt had tied the knot in the Caribbean over the holidays — something that has never been addressed by the couple.
Is that a wedding ring we spy on her left hand?

“We strike gold!”, that is what one of my fellow photographers said at
The American Society of Cinematographers Awards last night at The Grand
Ball Room in Hollywood & Highland.
I got the assignment last thrusday, read the notes and said yes,
yesterday got to the venue 50 mins prior to check in, it was a very cold
night, after checking in I was told that there was not going to be a
red carpet just a ‘press room’ and the ASC’s publicist will be bringing
nominees and presenters to have their photo taken.
