...when I met her last week in Toronto she looked relaxed and happy....

I wondered if Maddox’s presence influenced how they were treated during filming.
“Cambodian people are very different and what they value is very different,” she told me. “It’s not like walking around in Hollywood.
“They see us a mother and a son and I’m very proud to be a Cambodian citizen.
“When we’re there we feel like we’re home and people are very kind to us.”
First They Killed My Father, which is on Netflix now, will be Cambodia’s submission to the Oscars and Angelina could end up securing her first Best Director nomination.
But she says she still enjoys being an actor – and is looking forward to filming Maleficent 2.
“I think directing takes a lot, and you can do a movie for six weeks and move on but I love the ones like this that really matter,” she explained.
“I want to give my life to these kind of projects.
“I appreciate being able to be an actress and have fun – and the kids do too. They’re ready for me to play a bit on set – to get my horns on and have a laugh!”

Tommaso Colognese was Angelina's assistant in FTKMF.  He was also her assistant in Maleficent, assisted both her and Brad in By the Sea, and assisted him in Fury.

It’s a common story: growing up in a small town (in Italy), film was a way for me to glimpse the world outside. When I was a teenager, the director of a local film school sent me off to work on a set and from that moment on I wanted to stay. The best thing about working in film is that, with each project, you acquire a whole new family from whom you can always learn something new.
My first job after graduating from film school in LA was so bad I quit after three months, but the lure of the set soon brought me back. Behind the scenes it’s a lot less exciting than the DVD extras would have it, although it never fails to reward in some way. Admittedly I have been tempted to turn my back on film many times, but so far there’s always been a next project exciting enough to get me back on track.
Becoming a personal assistant was completely unplanned. I had just moved to London when I received a phone call from a colleague in Rome asking if I’d be interested in assisting an actor on a new film. Intrigued, I followed up and it turned out to be a position with Daniel Day-Lewis on Nine. It remains one of the most rewarding experiences of my career so far and has led to me working with several other amazing artists. Working closely with an artist while he or she is creating a character is a privileged position that can be very exciting, even though it also requires dealing with many of the more mundane aspects of the film process. A lot of coffee and good humour is required!

Friday, June 26, 2015, will forever go down in history. Not only did the Supreme Court of the United States legalize same-sex marriage, but Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had tea with Kate Middleton and Prince William.

After months of coordinating, the two power couples met for the first time at a private Kensington Palace meeting. "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Pitt at Kensington Palace on Friday afternoon," a Kensington Palace spokesman tells Us Weekly exclusively. "They discussed their shared interest in combatting the illegal wildlife trade."

Brangelina had flown to London earlier in the morning so Jolie can attend a lunch at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office on Monday as part of her work on UK foreign policy and her ongoing campaign to end war zone sexual violence.

At around 3:45 p.m., the UN Special Envoy was joined by Pitt and they headed straight over to Kensington Palace for the informal meeting.

And according to the insider, Middleton and Prince William were "really excited" about the afternoon tea, with a source adding that the royal couple — who were joined by Prince George — actually waited outside their apartment 1A home to greet the Hollywood royal couple. (Pitt and Jolie’s kids were also in London, but did not join in on the visit).

Naturally the Jolie-Pitt's didn’t arrive empty handed. A source tells Us the couple brought a special gift for the Duke and Duchess to celebrate the arrival of Princess Charlotte, who was born in May.

“Everyone got on splendidly,” says the source of their afternoon tea. “Brad and Angelina spent much longer with the Duke and Duchess than planned. They ended up staying for almost a few hours."

The meeting was a first for the foursome. Prince William, Pitt, and Jolie all attended the 2014 BAFTA awards but didn't cross paths.

In October 2014, Queen Elizabeth II made Jolie an Honorary Dame Commander at a private Buckingham Palace ceremony, which is the female equivalent of knighthood, for her humanitarian work to which she has dedicated much of her life.

Hollywood star and UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie has arrived in Turkey's southeastern province of Mardin to visit Syrian refugees.
The Oscar-winning American actress and director arrived Friday night in Turkey on a private plane to visit Syrian and Iraqi refugees, who fled clashes in their countries, in temporary protection centers in the Midyat district of Mardin.
Jolie is expected to participate in a program, which will be held for World Refugee Day with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Antonio Guterres, who is also in Turkey.
On Saturday, Guterres, who is on the fourth of a five-day visit, will also visit the temporary protection centers in Turkey's southeastern provinces of Mardin, Sanliurfa and Gaziantep, where Syrian refugees have been staying as well.
Jolie had visited Turkey in 2012. She met Syrian refugees, accompanied by Guterres in the southeastern provinces of Gaziantep and Kilis.  She had praised Turkey's efforts in hosting the Syrian people .
In 2011, Angelina Jolie traveled to Turkey's southern province of Hatay - 20 kilometers from the Syrian border - to meet with refugees who had fled Syria. Accompanied by UNHCR staff and Turkish government officials, she visited the Altinozu camp where some 1,700 Syrians had found shelter.
"The people in this camp have fled in fear for their lives, and many told me they were distraught about the safety of loved ones still in Syria," Jolie said.
At the time, there were almost 10,000 people living in four camps managed by Turkey and the Turkish Red Crescent.
Over the past two weeks only, a total of 23,349 Syrian refugees fleeing clashes in Syria have entered Turkey, the spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry said Thursday.
Syrian refugees fled clashes in the city of Tal Abyad, where there has been fierce fighting between Daesh and Syrian-Kurdish forces.
Turkey shares a 900-kilometer border with Syria and has sheltered more than 1.7 million Syrians, according to the UN.
According to government figures, Turkey has spent more than $6 billion so far for refugees while the international community's help has amounted to $300 million.

It's a special mother-daughter trip for Angelina Jolie Pitt and 9-year-old Shiloh. The mom of six brought her daughter to Lebanon on Friday to spend time with a 12-year-old Syrian girl named Hala, whom Angelina met a year ago during a trip for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

"Shiloh is very aware that I hold refugee families in high regard and has been asking to come on missions and meet them for many years," Jolie Pitt tells PEOPLE. "She had heard about Hala since my last visit to Lebanon, and has been wanting to meet her and her brothers and sisters."

She continues, "It was wonderful that they were able to meet, play together, and make friends. So many refugees are children. I've often heard them say that the most painful thing is not that they have lost their homes – it is that they have lost their friends."

BEIRUT: Hollywood actress and human rights campaigner Angelina Jolie made a brief visit to the Bekaa Valley in east Lebanon Friday to introduce her 9-year-old daughter to a Syrian refugee child.
A report by People Magazine said the one-day trip was for her daughter, Shiloh, to meet a 12-year-old Syrian refugee girl Jolie met during her last humanitarian trip to Lebanon in 2014.
"Shiloh is very aware that I hold refugee families in high regard and has been asking to come on missions and meet them for many years," Jolie told the magazine. "She had heard about Hala since my last visit to Lebanon, and has been wanting to meet her and her brothers and sisters."
The actress, who is a Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, traveled after the visit to attend an Iftar meal in a Syrian refugee camp in Turkey.
"It was humbling and emotional to see Hala and her siblings again, and realize that their situation only becomes harder as time goes on, and aid for refugees is stretched beyond all limits," Jolie said. "Their memories of Syria are fading. They have stopped counting the days in displacement. Nothing is certain and they feel abandoned."
The Iftar, which will take place in a refugee camp in the southern Turkish province of Mardin, will also be attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UNHCR chief Antonio Guterres, according to the Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah.
Turkey has become the biggest host for Syrian refugees with an estimated 1.8 million people fleeing their war-town country to their northern neighbor since 2011.
Lebanon, with one-fifteenth Turkey’s population, comes second with an estimated 1.5 million refugees, of whom 1.17 million are registered with UNHCR. Lebanon has the highest per capita concentration of refugees of any country in recent history.
Jolie, 38, has visited a number of Middle Eastern countries over the last years as part of her humanitarian work. She made a three-day visit to Lebanon in February last year to highlight the plight of Syrian children.
Last year’s visit to Lebanon was Jolie’s third on behalf of the U.N. Her previous visit was in September 2012.

William Hague vows to exploit ‘unusual alliance’ with Angelina Jolie-Pitt for greater good

Former foreign secretary and Conservative Party leader joins Hollywood actress and director at African Union summit to urge leaders to clamp down on sexual violence in their countries

William Hague, the former British foreign secretary, has vowed to use his “unusual alliance” with Angelina Jolie-Pitt to continue fighting sexual violence in the world’s most troubled regions.
Mr Hague said he and the Hollywood actress had accepted a rare invitation for outsiders to an African Union summit in Johannesburg in a bid to persuade largely male African leaders to take responsibility for the epidemic.

Mrs Jolie-Pitt told African foreign ministers that a groundswell of support for womens’ rights by their citizens meant their remaining in power depended on upholding them.

She said that sexual violence was not a uniquely African problem but added: “few parts of the world have suffered as much as nations in Africa”.

“There is a global epidemic of violence against women – both within conflict zones and within societies at peace – and it is still treated as a lesser crime and lower priority,” she said.


“The near-total impunity that exists worldwide for crimes against women in conflict zones in particular, means that we are seeing more and more armed groups turn to it as a weapon of choice: Women and girls are bearing the brunt of extremists that revel in treating them barbarically.”

Her appearance at the concrete convention centre in Sandton, Johannesburg’s business capital, enlivened the usually stolid proceedings and drew a large crowd to the centre’s main auditorium.
Mr Hague said the pair would continue to press their Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative, which they established in 2012, until they saw tangible changes by governments.

“It can be done – we are starting to make progress and there are a number of countries in Africa changing laws and training security forces to prevent it from happening,” he told The Telegraph.

“This is a key responsibility for men as well as women. There are a lot of male foreign ministers around that table and these crimes are committed by men and we men alongside leading women have to make sure they are challenged.”

The Yorkshire-born former Conservative Party leader conceded his pairing with Lara Croft actress drew attention and said he was happy to exploit it for the greater good.

“It’s an unusual alliance absolutely but it does seem to work in drawing attention to the issue and drawing support: the diplomacy of a major country like the UK and the global recognition and reach of someone like Angelina Jolie-Pitt," he said. "Because we have now worked on it for three years, we are sufficiently well-known around the world for doing it and we get a hearing.”
