Sorrentino's This Must Be The Place

Paolo Sorrentino was earlier rumored to be eying Angelina for a cameo in his next film, The Great Beauty.  His current film This Must Be The Place, premiered at Cannes earlier this year and is set for release in the U.S. this November.

La Dolce Vita

While Sorrentino has had some success at Cannes and on the surface has the credentials to pique her interest, a cameo in his film about tabloid journalists and paparazzis -- which is basically what a La Dolce Vita-style reporter would be -- hardly sounds like something she'd be interested in.   I would guess that Sorrentino wants her to play the reporter's prey who is possibly also the titular character -- in other words reenact her real life travails being hounded by the media.  Comments in The Playlist mention that Italian sources insist the THR report is spurious.  In the absence of confirmation from other credible sources, I am skeptical.

As to speculation that her next starring role will be in Besson's film, another commenter pointed out that Angelina herself  indicated a collaboration with Besson was still a distant possibility and she is more likely to work on Salt 2 first.

Angelina Jolie Being Lined Up For Cameo In Paolo Sorrentino's Next Film 'The Great Beauty'

by Kevin Jagernauth

Well, he made Sean Penn go goth in "This Must Be Place," so who knows how Paolo Sorrentino will tranform Angelina Jolie in his next film, but either way, the director is already angling a role for the actress in his upcoming effort. Set to be shot in Rome, plot details are scarce on the film entitled "La grande bellezza" ("The Great Beauty"), but it will feature the director's "Il Divo" and "The Consequences Of Love" star Toni Servillo as a "La Dolce Vita" style reporter, with Jolie said to feature in a cameo appearance. And that's about it. The film is expected to be completed for a 2013 release, and it's pretty much guaranteed that if it's done in time, it will land at the Cannes Film Festival where Sorrentino's past five films have premiered in competition.
Jolie is currently vamping it up as "Maleficent" in Disney's great fairy tale hope for 2014, after which we presume she'll stop by the 'Beauty' set before moving onto the thriller she's shooting with Luc Besson in early 2013. So a tentpole, arthouse appearance and genre flick....yep, Jolie is sticking with the gameplan. [THR]

Not sure this is true as some Italian sources are reporting this is a lie, and that filming on this project begins tomorrow August 1st. may just be PR using Angelina's name as often happens. Also thought Angelina said in an interview months ago that the Besson film is not a sure thing just as Salt2 is not. Doubtful if any of these films will be made with Angelina, especially as Brad is shooting The Gray Man early next year.

Not sure the Besson movie is happening so soon... he's directing Malavita this August. And she might shoot Salt 2 early next year if she approves of the script.
