Royal sources confirmed to HELLO! Online that the visit had been "last-minute" and that no members of the royal family were present during the tour. The visit is believed to have been especially arranged for the Hollywood actress and her 15-year-old son; Buckingham Palace declined to comment. The palace's State Rooms are normally open for visits in the summer, from the end of July to August while the Queen holidays in Balmoral in Scotland.

Random Fuzzies

-  It looks like they are staying at the Mandarin.  I thought they were met at the airport by a top-hatted rep from a different hotel.

-  She bought 30 books, mostly coloring books.  Those books are presumably also available in the U.S.   She could have bought multiple copies of Deathly Hallows on Amazon.  It looks like they may be in Europe for a while.

-  Per Screen Daily, War Machine is "a possible first Cannes selection" for Netflix.  The 70th annual Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to be held from 17 to 28 May 2017.  It lines up with War Machine's May 26 worldwide release.  Cannes would be a receptive audience for FTKMF

-  There was only the 1 woman who looked like she was dressed to travel with them at LAX.  But once in London she has gone around with a handful of assistants.  They traveled to Buckingham in 2 cars.  Some of their staff probably went ahead and brought additional luggage for them.  Unlike the other kids, Knox and Zahara did not have bags and none of their security at LAX were carrying bags.  Angelina's wardrobe for her multiple official appearances would have been brought over in garment bags and not crushed in her rollaboard.

 -- Fussy

.... Moments later their car was been being accepted through the wrought iron gates of the Palace.
It is understood Angelina and Maddox were given a highly unusual private tour of Buckingham Palace, where no members of the royal family were present.
The Palace will be open daily for visits to its State Rooms from 9:30am to 7:30pm from July 22 to August 31.
It will reopen for tourists from September 1 to October 1, with exclusive evening visits running from  5:30pm.

Angelina Jolie Receives Her 'Honorary Dame' Award from Queen Elizabeth

10/10/2014 AT 10:50 AM EDT

Newly married Angelina Jolie made it a family outing as she went to Buckingham Palace to meet Queen Elizabeth on Friday.

The actress and humanitarian, 39, had a private audience with the Queen, 88, who presented her with the physical symbol of her recently bestowed title of honorary dame – the Insignia of an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George.

They met for about 20 minutes, a palace source tells PEOPLE, with most of the time taken up by the presentation and a following conversation the Queen had with Jolie. Then, in what must have been a memorable moment for the family, Pitt, 50, and the couple's six children – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox – were ushered in to the grand 1844 Room to be presented to the Queen.

Unfortunately, no media – or spokespeople for the royal family – were in attendance, so there are no details of the meeting. A royal source says that while there was a "serious nature" to the visit, the atmosphere at the palace meeting "was a happy family one."

It was revealed in June that Jolie was being made an honorary dame in the list of recipients issued to mark the Queen's birthday. The title recognizes Jolie's work in founding of the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI) and the contribution she has made toward the British foreign policy objective of ending sexual violence in conflict.

The Jolie-Pitts have had much to celebrate of late. In August they were toasting their secret wedding at their countryside home in France.

Audiences with the Queen are not announced, so it had not been made public that Jolie had an appointment at the palace Friday.

The family is thought to have come in from Gozo, one of the Maltese islands, where they are living during the making of the upcoming film By the Sea.

Honors such as the conferring of knights and dames, and others like CBE and OBE medals, are normally given in public ceremonies. But sometimes they take place in private at home or abroad – especially if the recipient, like Jolie, is not British.
