Angelina Jolie will be honored with the Desert Palm Achievement Award – Actress at the upcoming Palm Springs International Film Awards for her role in Netflix’s “Maria.”
“Maria presents the iconic Angelina Jolie in the role of a lifetime as she embodies Maria Callas, the world-renowned opera legend,” said Nachhattar Singh Chandi, Festival Chairman. “Jolie’s extraordinary portrayal captures the heart and complexity of an artist whose life was as captivating as her music.”
Jolie’s recognitions adds to a lineup of other recipients, including Adrien Brody, Nicole Kidman and Colman Domingo.
Past recipients of the Actress Award include Emma Stone, Cate Blanchett, Viola Davis, and Renée Zellweger, all of whom received Oscar nominations during their respective years.
Jolie won an Oscar for her turn in James Mangold’s drama “”Girl, Interrupted” (1999). In addition, she’s directed many acclaimed films like “First They Killed My Father.” Beyond film, Jolie champions environmental conservation, education initiatives, and sustainable fashion through Atelier Jolie.
The ceremony is set for Jan. 3 at the Palm Springs Convention Center during the Palm Springs International Film Festival, which runs from Jan. 2-13.

Past winners of the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress include last year’s recipient, Emma Stone, ("Poor Things") who went on to receive the Academy Award for Best Actress, along with Cate Blanchett ("Tár"), Jessica Chastain ("The Eyes Of Tammy Faye"), Olivia Colman ("The Favourite"), Viola Davis ("Ma Rainey's Black Bottom"), Julianne Moore, Natalie Portman ("Black Swan" and "Jackie"), Charlize Theron and Renée Zellweger ("Judy").
Jolie joins this year’s previously announced honorees: Adrien Brody (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor), Conclave (Ensemble Performance Award) presented to actors Ralph Fiennes, Isabella Rossellini, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Lucian Msamati; Colman Domingo (Spotlight Award, Actor); Nicole Kidman (International Star Award); Mikey Madison (Breakthrough Performance Award); and Emilia Pérez (Vanguard Award) presented to director Jacques Audiard and actors Karla Sofia Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez and Edgar Ramírez.
Jolie won an Academy Award in 2000 for her performance in "Girl, Interrupted" and has also appeared in films such as "Salt" and Walt Disney Pictures’ "Maleficent" series. She is the Tony Award-winning producer of the new Broadway musical "The Outsiders," produced, co-wrote and directed the acclaimed films "First They Killed My Father" and the upcoming "Without Blood," and directed the Academy Award-nominated drama "Unbroken."
