Brad's PR dictates what People writes in posts that mention both of them. Not everything the PR says is true, but it is what the PR wants out there. The voluble "sources" in Daily Mail, Page Six, and other tabloids are total clickbait fabrications.
This is his PR's attempt at obfuscation. It does not mention abuse. It serves to distract from whether Brad visited or was in contact with Pax—a matter that they were apparently not ready to address.
The last word in the post was given to Angelina's side.
Let's look more closely at this perfunctory PR effort:
"The other side is desperately and repeatedly trying to do anything to distract from the fact that it was her — and not Brad — who requested an NDA about the divorce,NYTimes October 4, 2022
A divorce lawyer for Mr. Pitt, Anne Kiley, said that Mr. Pitt had accepted responsibility for some things in his past but that he would not accept responsibility for things he did not do."during divorce settlement negotiations this year" -- the divorce case was already dormant in 2022. The hearings for the mental health experts took place in early 2021. Judge Ouderkirk was disqualified by the Appellate Court in July 2021 retroactive to August 2020. The S&O to lift the ATROs was signed by the regular Court judge on September 22, 2021 and the sale of Nouvel was announced on October 6, 2021. Even if it were true that Samantha Bley made the very late and essentially useless suggestion of an NDA -- a year after all activity ceased and 6 years after various "sources" had been raining derogatory statements to People, etc. -- that would have still been a year after Nouvel's sale. And since "she did not bring up the nondisparagement proposal again," even by their telling, the "preliminary proposal" never reached the level of a "request."
Ms. Kiley also said that during divorce settlement negotiations this year — which were separate from the negotiations over the winery — a lawyer for Ms. Jolie had sent Mr. Pitt’s lawyers a proposal to try to settle the case, and that one of the preliminary proposals had been a stipulation that neither party could make a derogatory comment about the other in public, except in court. Ms. Kiley said Mr. Pitt’s side agreed to discuss the term, but when Ms. Jolie’s side responded, she did not bring up the nondisparagement proposal again.
"This was a simple business dispute, but sadly, this legal attack is just the latest example of them harming the entire family by making it personal,Where to start with this nonsense? The blatantly, intentionally personal William Bradley Pitt vs Angelina Jolie lawsuit? The kids' disinterest in returning to Miraval? Brad's unsold share?
"They don't want anyone to focus on the fact that she deprived the kids of their inheritance of Miraval by breaching the agreement and selling it and taking the money."
Is newly appointed judge Anne Kiley still moonlighting as a "source"?
The small army of mental health experts who were engaged by the family testified in 2021 that the children had sufficiently healed from the plane incident.
The current problem between Brad and the children goes beyond the trauma caused by his abusive behavior.
Brad was afraid of the public learning the truth. In the immediate aftermath of the incident, his PR entered into quid pro quo arrangements with People et al., ensuring they reported Brad's version of events. His "sources," almost always anonymous, tried to shift the blame to Angelina. He took advantage of her disdain for having a publicist. She didn't know or care what tabloids said about her. Her singular focus was on the children and healing the family.
Angelina “tried to bridge the gap between the kids and their dad,” the source tells PEOPLE. “She’s worked to achieve reinstatement for them,” and Brad acknowledged her in his Ad Astra voiceover:
"I'm unsure of the future, but I'm not concerned. I will rely on those closest to me, and will share their burdens, as they share mine. I will live, and love."On the one hand, Brad was expressing his love and gratitude to Angelina; on the other, he was throwing her under the bus. It's not new. That was his history of abuse of Angelina. Abuse of her trust. He wanted to always be seen as the wholesome, golden boy. He didn't want that image tarnished or lose fans, Jennifer Aniston fans, movie industry fans. It was convenient for him that Angelina didn't bother to defend herself. As he said in his voiceovers, "I'm selfish. I'm selfish. I've let so many people down. I'm just a selfish person."
He has never publicly alluded to the trauma he inflicted on the family. He made vague general confessions through his Ad Astra voiceovers (2019) and his Tampere exhibit (2022) but undermined those efforts by having Kiley & co. issue denials like the one above. The number of trauma specialists who testified, and the years it took before they could say the children had recovered is an indication of the severity of the chiildren's trauma.
Even as the kids healed from the actual incident, Brad's cover-up caused a more intractable rift. The kids are now old enough to check what is online. Angelina might not care about the media games Brad and his team played at her expense but the kids do. They manifested their disgust by rejecting what he maneuvered and lied to protect--his name. Their respect for him was hanging by a thread after 2016 and the further revelations severed it completely. They did not want to have anything more to do with him once they became adults and no longer had to comply with scheduled visits.
BBC with Yalda Hakim, February 2017 in Cambodia
BBC: An incident occurred that led to your separation.Despite Angelina's fervent desire to heal the family, there was nothing she could do to change the children's minds.
AJ: “I don’t want to say very much about that, except to say it was a very difficult time and we are a family and we will always be a family, and we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it,”
BBC: Because you haven't said much actually, the tabloids have been doing all the talking for you. And you haven't said anything at all actually.
AJ: "And I won't."
As Paul Murphy repeatedly stated, healing cannot commence until Brad sets things right. Giving his mea culpa is just the start of a long road and he has to do it with his actions. He can't depend on therapists. He will have to earn the family’s forgiveness.
A source close to Jolie says, “Brad Pitt’s insistence on an NDA to cover up his criminal conduct is unconscionable, and no abuse survivor should be coerced and forced into silence. She never pressed charges, she left him all their properties, and she is the one who tried to sell him the business in the first place. Yet he was not satisfied and still he sued her and continues to attack her in the press today. All she wants is peace and the ability to heal their family.”With the S&O to lift the ATROs that states
"the parties agree that the ATROs no longer apply in this proceeding and neither party is restrained or required to give notice pursuant to the ATROs."with the bifurcation of status, and with
The parties agree that the Court in this proceeding does not have jurisdiction over each party's respective separate property interests in real and personal property, and specifically that the Court in this proceeding has no jurisdiction over the disposition of Nouvel LLC and/or Mondo Bongo LLC.
"While Vivienne is in New York, Knox shall remain in Los Angeles and Respondent's visitation with Knox shall continue pursuant to the status quo."for the twins who will soon no longer be minors, and now with "she left him all their properties," there is nothing for the divorce court to adjudicate, no reason for the divorce case to still be open.

What do you want to say? Against violence?
"No again it's called... I don't...to me it's all about self reflection. It's about how, how...again where have I gotten it wrong in my relationships, where have I misstepped. Where am I complicit?
It's really, for me it's borne out of ownership of really what I call a radical inventory of self. Getting really brutally honest with me and where...taking account of those I may have hurt and those I, you know, moments I have just gotten wrong."

In late January to mid February 2021, the witnesses testified in day-long hearings presided over by Judge Ouderkirk.
All the experts worked with the children. LaViolette (domestic violence and anger management) also worked with Brad, and Luskin (forgiveness) also worked with Brad and Angelina.
The Offers of proof Bley filed with Ouderkirk figure prominently in Murphy's filings. A reminder on what an offer of proof actually is:
Code §354 (a)). An offer of proof is a statement that explains the “substance, purpose, and relevance” of the excluded evidence (Id). If your case ends up on appeal, the court of appeal may need the offer to determine not just whether error occurred but also whether any error was prejudicial.Brad's lawyers do not contest Murphy's characterizations of the offers, which makes it obvious that they are all in this together.
Brad Pitt Source Slams Angelina Jolie's 'Never-Ending Attacks' amid Their Ongoing Winery Legal Battle https://t.co/MIsHk9osPp
— People (@people) August 5, 2024
A source close to Brad Pitt is responding to Angelina Jolie's latest filing in her ongoing legal battle with her ex over Château Miraval, the French winery they previously co-owned together.
Jolie's attorneys recently filed court documents arguing that Pitt tried to have Jolie sign a revised non-disclosure agreement "specifically designed to force her silence about his abuse and cover-up," while arguing in support of a recent motion to compel Pitt to disclose personal communications.
"This was a simple business dispute, but sadly, this legal attack is just the latest example of them harming the entire family by making it personal," the source says.
Pitt's attorneys previously described Jolie's motion "wide-ranging and intrusive."
"The other side is desperately and repeatedly trying to do anything to distract from the fact that it was her — and not Brad — who requested an NDA about the divorce, a fact which completely undermines the legitimacy of their never-ending attacks," the source close to Pitt says. "They don't want anyone to focus on the fact that she deprived the kids of their inheritance of Miraval by breaching the agreement and selling it and taking the money."
Pitt, 60, originally sued Jolie, 49, for selling her stake in Château Miraval to a third party, Tenute del Mondo, in 2022. He alleges Jolie's sale of her stake in the winery violated a prior agreement that neither would do so unless the other person approved. The ongoing legal battle has overlapped at times with a separate conflict regarding the custody of their children, half of whom have now reached legal age: Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
All she wants is peace and the ability to heal their family.”
On July 15, Pitt's attorneys asked for Jolie's motion regarding her ex-husband's personal communications to be denied and alleged Jolie wanted him to produce communications regarding "such sensitive issues as therapy he voluntarily undertook" in the wake of the 2016 family plane ride that led to their divorce, even after Pitt volunteered to produce "documents sufficient to show everything that occurred on the flight." They additionally stated that Pitt's communications from that time period are not relevant to the former couple's dispute over the winery.
Meanwhile, Jolie's attorneys claimed in court documents that Pitt "waived any privacy protections when he sued Jolie" and that Jolie herself "has no desire to litigate these issues and for years never publicly discussed any of it."
"Rather than appreciate her discretion, Pitt sought to contractually mandate and enforce it," the documents read. "Because she refused, he seeks to punish her, demanding $67 million plus punitive damages. In so doing, Pitt placed his conduct squarely at issue."
Another source recently told PEOPLE that nearly eight years after their breakup, Pitt and Jolie's divorce settlement is still being hashed out. "Both sides are still talking," the source close to the couple said of remaining issues in the negotiations, "but it's not done yet."
