Eternals jumped over No Time to Die and A Quiet Place 2 to take hold of 5th place in the Domestic box office chart -- until Spider-man opens and pushes everyone down a slot. It is just $5M shy of $400M worldwide. Even with the adverse initial reactions, Marvel remained confident that its audience would eventually find it. An ambitious film almost always means it won't appeal to everyone and they would have known they were looking at a smaller subset of Marvel fandom. Maybe a bit smaller than they had originally planned.
