It appears she was in Sydney with members of her Unbroken team including Roger Deakins and Jon Hutman -- which means they were likely checking out potential filming locations. Zamperini doesn't actually visit Australia in the story but parts of Sydney could be made to pass for California in the mid-20th C.

While it is unknown what brought the superstar to the land Down Under for such a flying visit, she reportedly boarded her flight out of the country bound for Hawaii, where she is directing her second feature film, Unbroken.
