Q: Is that a Wedding Ring?
A: "No"

So it's a wedding-ring-like gold band that acts as a place saver for the engagement ring?

A commenter says that the ring has stones.  Many wedding bands I am familiar with have stones, some are encrusted all around with diamonds.

It could not have escaped her notice that people would think it's a wedding ring because it looks like a wedding ring and she is wearing it on her ring finger.  She knows from past experience that people are watching her fingers closely.

She has seven other fingers she could have worn it in and it wouldn't have attracted much attention.  She could have moved the ring around and that would have quickly ended speculation.  She could have also just taken it off or not worn it constantly. All easy enough to do for an ordinary, inconsequential ring.

But she didn't. She had it on in all her key public appearances including when she laid a wreath at the Memorial.

So if it isn't a wedding ring, why did she wear it on her ring finger deliberately provoking wedding talk?

And with her, it would have to be deliberate.
