Microsoft's Lawyers + Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie has a close relationship with Microsoft's legal team. With the corporation, she co-founded a nonprofit that represents unaccompanied children pro bono in immigration proceedings (somehow the tabloids don't pick up on that as often as they do Shiloh's outfits). KIND (Kids in Need of Defense) held its Pro Bono Service Awards at the historic Decatur House, where we snapped honorees Covington management committee chair Tim Hester and Seyfarth chair Steve Poor picking up awards on behalf of their firms.
Microsoft GC Brad Smith, who co-chairs KIND with Angelina Jolie (the surprise glamour angle to being an attorney) when he isn't heading his 1,000-person legal department. He's with Nixon Peabody DC managing partner Jeff Lesk, whose firm had 46 attorneys volunteer over $1.1M in pro bono legal hours last year. The best part, Jeff says, is that the children realize someone is looking out for them.
We also snapped KIND exec. director Wendy Young, formerly chief counsel on immigration policy to the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, here with Handler Thayer sports practice chair Andrew Morton. Andrew's also a human rights advocate and previously won the DC Bar's Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year.
