Forbes Celebrity 100

I've never been a fan of the Forbes Lists. They're often sloppily put together with the sole intent of generating hits. When it comes to Hollywood data, I find Vanity Fair more reliable. VF hosts the most sought after post-Oscars party every year so their access to people with inside info is there on display. But for what its worth, here are the entries from this year's Forbes Celebrity 100 list. The entries from the previous two years follow.

Angelina finished filming The Tourist in late April or early May 2010 so her upfront fee would be reflected in the 2010 tally. Her only project in the current period is In the Land of Blood and Honey for which she reportedly received a small fee. Most of the $30M she earned is likely backend from Salt. (Which works out to a gross income of approx $135M for the movie.) Any backend from The Tourist will probably be in next year's list. Brad's $20M includes his fees from Moneyball which started in June 2010 and Cogan's Trade which just wrapped. He didn't have a film released in 2010 so ancillary income from previous films will be minimal.

The Forbes Celebrity 100

The Celebrity 100, which includes film and television actors, TV personalities, models, athletes, authors, musicians and comedians, is a measure of entertainment-related earnings and media visibility (exposure in print, television, radio and online). We also measure social media power by looking at each celebrity's presence on Facebook and Twitter.

The earnings consist of pretax income between May 1, 2010, and May 1, 2011. Management, agent and attorney fees are not deducted. Forbes has been publishing the list annually since 1999.

Pitt has become as active a producer as he is an actor. His company, Plan B, was behind last year's Kick-Ass and Eat Pray Love, which starred Julia Roberts. The actor hasn't appeared on screen since 2009's Inglourious Basterds (which earned a healthy $320 million at the global box office) but he voiced do-gooder Metro Man in DreamWorks Animation's Megamind opposite Will Ferrell

Earnings estimates are for June 1, 2009 to June 1, 2010. Includes dollars earned solely from entertainment income. Management, agent and attorney fees have not been deducted. Figures rounded off where appropriate. Sources include Billboard, Pollstar, Adams Media Research, The Nielsen Company and SNL Kagan. Rankings are generated by combining earnings with other metrics: Web hits on Google Blog Search, TV/radio mentions on LexisNexis, overall press mentions on Factiva and the number of times a celebrity's image appeared on the cover of 25 consumer magazines. The mom of six is a constant tabloid presence with 38 magazine covers in the last 12 months. She also makes movies. Jolie lost some ground this year because she didn't have a new movie in our timeframe. But she continues to cement her bankability with big thrillers like Salt and The Tourist, costarring Johnny Depp.

Helped by Pitt's star power, last year's Inglourious Basterds brought in $314 million at the global box office, earning Pitt a pretty penny on the backend. Pitt is also a publicity magnet thanks to his relationship with Angelina Jolie and his six photogenic kids. He's also the burgeoning producer behind films like Eat Pray Love, starring Julia Roberts.

Angelina Jolie dethrones Oprah Winfrey to top this year's Celebrity 100.

She's rich. She's talented. She's beautiful. And now Angelina Jolie is the most powerful celebrity in the world.

Thanks to the release of several blockbuster movies and an endless sea of media buzz, Jolie has dethroned Oprah Winfrey to top this year's Celebrity 100 list, Forbes' annual ranking of the world's ultra famous.

Jolie raked in $27 million in the past 12 months thanks to a movie schedule that included Kung Fu Panda, Wanted and the not-yet-released spy thriller Salt. Even more impressive: The publicity she garnered following the birth of her twins, as well as the consistent headlines she grabs for her philanthropic efforts and her relationship with actor Brad Pitt, who ranks No. 9 on the list.

Eclectic actress and gossip-column favorite dethrones media maven Oprah Winfrey atop this year's Celebrity 100. Jolie has always been able to attract tabloid attention and Oscar nods, but this year, she's finally figured out a way to make serious money. Her most recent blockbuster, Wanted, proved this mother of six's sweet spot is action films; the movie earned $340 million at the box office. Up next: Salt, in which Jolie plays a CIA officer accused of being a spy.

Pitt earned his second Academy Award nomination for his performance as a man aging backward in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Also garnered plenty of tabloid attention after the birth of his twins with partner Angelina Jolie. Like Jolie, Pitt tries to divert the seemingly endless media attention on the couple to causes close to his heart, including rebuilding New Orleans.
