Random Fuzzy Thoughts

Gossip loves scandal and nothing provides more scandalous fodder than a "war" between celebrities.  It's good for business.  It keeps readers coming back hungry and clicking for more.  Hence gossip sites from Lainey to TMZ are salivating at the prospect of more fireworks in the aftermath of Angelina's divorce filing.

But I think it's far-fetched that Brad "will come out swinging" as Lainey apparently hopes.  He didn't come out swinging in his previous divorce and now, with six children involved, it is even less likely.  I think the quotes from Brad's "friends" explaining his side of the abuse allegations undoubtedly came from Brad himself and his initial complaint that Angelina's side was trying "to manipulate the smallest kernel of truth .. to gain custody" was his knee jerk angry response to the divorce filing.   As I noted earlier, subsequent quotes from "friends" no longer target Angelina's side.   After the initial shock and anger, he now has a team in place that can help him make a somber assessment of what he faces and what he hopes to happen.   And alienating his children by attacking their mother is unlikely to be an option they are considering.

It is understandable that Lainey is hoping for fireworks.  After the filing and Brad's explanation of the abuse allegations, it's been very quiet.  Gossip sites are in withdrawal and have taken to regurgitating the same posts over and over.   Only news of the existence of a prenup is new and it is a downer for them because it means there will be no conflict over property.  So they are hoping for a custody battle.

But E! reported that Angelina was only looking at sole custody as a temporary arrangement:
Though Angelina Jolie is currently seeking full physical custody of her six children amid her divorce from Brad Pitt, she's hoping that will eventually change.
E! News has learned the 41-year-old actress doesn't intend for the custody situation to remain permanent. Rather, we're told she believes it's what's necessary right now, and she knows she and Pitt will need to co-parent together in the future for the sake of their children, MaddoxPaxZaharaShiloh, and twins Knox and Viviennne.

Further dashing the gossips' hopes, E! quotes another Brad friend:
He will continue to do what's in the best interest of the children...[He] is most concerned about his children and the best thing for them is to keep the situation private."

An Angelina relative told People:
"Her family is broken and she is in agony," the relative says. "Her children are recovering from the events that brought about the filing of the divorce."
"Her focus is on their health and emotional well-being."

Everyone on her side has said that the divorce filing was all about her childern.  Her concern for her children has consistently been the sole explanation for her actions.   Therefore it is curious that the carefully worded statements from her reps made a point to use "family" instead of just "children" -- as "family" also includes Brad:  "This decision was made for the health of the family"  and "Angelina will always do what's in the best interest of taking care of her family".

The reasons for both her custody request and the divorce filing are to protect the children.   If she anticipates that the need to protect them through full physical custody will only be temporary,  doesn't that imply that the need to protect them thru the divorce filing will also be temporary?  It seems that the "health and well-being" protection a divorce filing affords is precisely through custody.

It's About Their Kids, NOT That Actress

Angelina Jolie did NOT file for divorce because of rumors Brad Pitt was reportedly involved with Marion Cotillard ... it's ALL about Brad and their 6 kids ... sources with intimate knowledge of the situation tell TMZ.
We now have even more sources telling us ... Angelina reached her breaking point last week over Brad's consumption of weed and alcohol, and combined with what she says are Brad's anger issues ... his interactions with the kids created a deal breaking problem for her.
We're told squarely ... no third person is involved.
TMZ broke the story ... Angelina filed for divorce Monday and is asking for sole physical custody of their kids. She wants him to only have visitation.
We're also told as far as anyone involved knows ... there's no plan for Brad to go to rehab, at least as of now.

“Something happened last week where she (Jolie) reached a breaking point and that’s why on Thursday she separated from him, on Friday she went to a lawyer, on Monday they had filed for divorce, it happened like that,” Levin said in a Facebook video. “Something happened last week that pushed her over the line.”
He also said: “This is about Brad Pitt, weed, alcohol, his anger problems and how the combination of those things affect his interaction with their six kids.
“And that’s what this is about, it’s not about a third person, it’s not about another woman. It is about the kids and that’s why she did it, that’s why she did it abruptly.”

Conflict Over Confrontation with Son on Jet

Brad Pitt crossed a line he had never crossed before by lunging at his 15-year-old son on a private jet and making contact with him, but the details of precisely what happened are in conflict ... and frankly, murky.
TMZ broke the story ... the L.A. County Dept. of Children and Family Services launched an investigation after getting an anonymous tip that Brad allegedly attacked his eldest son on a trip back from France.
Here's what's alleged -- Shortly after the plane took off, Brad and Angelina began arguing and Maddox jumped up to verbally defend his mom. We're told Brad then lunged at the boy and Angelina jumped in between them to block her husband. Brad connected in some fashion with his son.
Now here's what's in dispute:
-- Whether Brad and Angelina were arguing, or whether Maddox was acting up on the plane.
-- Whether Brad made contact with his son intentionally or inadvertently.
-- Whether Brad was drunk at the time. Although authorities were told Brad was drunk when the incident went down, we're told Angelina says he was sober at the time but got drunk later in the flight. Sources connected with Brad tell TMZ he was drunk at the time of the incident.
As we reported, Angelina wants sole physical custody of the kids. A source connected with Angelina says this is not about alcohol ... she would never leave Brad if it was just a substance abuse problem. The source says this is all about protecting their children.
Brad has denied there was any abuse, but sources connected with him acknowledge there was an incident on the jet.
And our sources say Brad has never acted aggressively toward his kids in the past -- other than verbally -- and Angelina felt the incident on the plane was a deal breaker.

  1. Hi Fussy,

Great analysis of the situation. I also believe that there's a decent possibility of a reconciliation between the two of them provided Brad gets treatment for drinking/weed and his anger problems.....but one thing I do not like is if Brad has to let Angelina completely have her way with disciplining the kids. I think having a parent being stricter is a good thing and Angelina (Based on how her mom brought her and James Haven up) seems kind of hippy.

Angelina's lawyer's initial statement said "Angelina Jolie Pitt" which is interesting. I know she has been going by Jolie Pitt for about 1.5 years now, but in the case of a divorce, why not just go back to Jolie? Many major publications continue to refer to her as Jolie. Also, she didn't indicate on the divorce forms to "restore former name to ____". If she really does get divorced, it seems doubtful she would keep her legal last name as Jolie Pitt, so why not just simplify it by requesting a restoration of her maiden name in the divorce papers?

  2. Hi Emma, Good Point about the name
