Angelina Jolie Files for Divorce from Brad Pitt Allegations of Substance Abuse, Anger

Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt and the trigger was a conflict over the kids, substance abuse and anger ... TMZ has learned.
Jolie filed legal docs Monday citing irreconcilable differences.
She's asking for physical custody of the couple's 6 children. She is asking the judge to give Pitt visitation. It's significant ... she does not want Brad to have joint physical custody ... only joint legal custody.
Sources connected with the couple tell us ... Angelina's decision to file has to do with the way Brad was parenting the children ... she was extremely upset with his methods.
Our sources say, Angelina became "fed up" with Brad's consumption of weed and possibly alcohol, and mixed with what she believes is "an anger problem" ... felt it became dangerous for the children.
Indeed, Angelina's entertainment attorney Robert Offer says she made the decision "for the health of the family."
We're told there was no alleged "third person" ... her decision to file was solely over Brad's interaction with their children.
Jolie, who's being repped by disso queen Laura Wasser, is not asking for spousal support.
Jolie lists the date of separation as Sept. 15, 2016.
They married in August 2014. They've been together since 2004.
The last time we saw them together was in July when they took the twins, Knox and Vivienne, out for a birthday breakfast in West Hollywood.

It's About Their Kids, NOT That Actress

Angelina Jolie did NOT file for divorce because of rumors Brad Pitt was reportedly involved with Marion Cotillard ... it's ALL about Brad and their 6 kids ... sources with intimate knowledge of the situation tell TMZ.
There are reports swirling that Brad hooked up with Marion on the set of their movie, "Allied," and that's why Angelina filed for divorce. Untrue.
We now have even more sources telling us ... Angelina reached her breaking point last week over Brad's consumption of weed and alcohol, and combined with what she says are Brad's anger issues ... his interactions with the kids created a deal breaking problem for her.
We're told squarely ... no third person is involved.
TMZ broke the story ... Angelina filed for divorce Monday and is asking for sole physical custody of their kids. She wants him to only have visitation.
We're also told as far as anyone involved knows ... there's no plan for Brad to go to rehab, at least as of now.

Angelina Jolie Pitt and Brad Pitt separated just five days ago, according to the divorce filing obtained by PEOPLE.

Jolie filed from divorced from the 52-year-old actor on Monday, after two years of marriage.

Jolie, 41, cited irreconcilable differences for their split. She asked for physical custody of the couple's shared six children – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox – asking for Pitt to be granted visitation.

She did not request child or spousal support.

The documents state that the couple have been separated since September 15.

"Angelina Jolie Pitt has filed for dissolution of the marriage. This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time," Jolie's attorney told PEOPLE.

In a statement to PEOPLE Pitt said, "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."

A source close to the situation told PEOPLE, "Both Brad and Angelina care very much about their kids and there is sadness on both sides."

The couple were last spotted together in mid-July, just ahead of their second wedding anniversary – though the insider told PEOPLE Pitt has escaped to France "many time this year because they were fighting."

"The divorce is a complete shock," a source close to the couple told PEOPLE. "They have definitely spent more time apart this year, but it's still a shock. They just celebrated their wedding anniversary together."

In the wake their split, speculation surfaced about the actor's relationship with costar Marion Cotillard. The actors are co-starring in the upcoming World War II drama Allied.

The New York Post reported that Jolie had hired "a private eye" to spy on them. "She felt that he was fooling around with [Cotillard] on the set, and it turns out, he was. And that was the final straw," the paper reported.

However, a source told PEOPLE that the pair's breakup has nothing to do with Cotillard and denied the comments reported by The Post.

Just last month, sources told PEOPLE that the couple were "as happy as ever."

"They really are great," the source said. "They're really busy, but happy. The kids are getting so big! It's hard to believe."

Pitt and Jolie first met on the 2003 set of their 2005 thriller Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and began publicly dating a few years later – after the actor's split from then-wife Jennifer Aniston

"Because of the film, we ended up being brought together to do all these crazy things, and I think we found this strange friendship and partnership that kind of just suddenly happened," Jolie Pitt told Vogue in 2006. "I think a few months in I realized, 'God, I can't wait to get to work.' ... Anything we had to do with each other, we just found a lot of joy in it together and a lot of real teamwork. We just became kind of a pair."

In May 2006, the couple welcomed their first child together, daughter Shiloh, now 10. She joined Jolie Pitt's adopted brood of Maddox, now 15, and Zahara, now 11.
