Long Range Forecast: 'By The Sea'

FEATURED STORIES - on September 18, 2015 by BoxOffice Staff

By The Sea
(Universal)
PROS:
- Jolie Pitt proved she's a commercially viable director after the massive success of Unbroken last year.
- Brad & Angelina can generate plenty of publicity without doing more than simply going out in public. Traffic-hungry celebrity websites will be buzzing about this movie.
- It's hard to bet against Universal this year. We are confident that the studio can nurture this film as well.
- If it clicks, this could become part of the Oscar conversation.
CONS:
- Reactions to the atmospheric first trailer weren't overly enthusiastic.
- If the film is too dark and has too much of an "arthouse" vibe, it could turn off mainstream moviegoers.
- There's a ton of competition to fight through in November.
