HOLLYWOOD star Angelina Jolie has personally sent a letter to Sports, Arts & Culture cabinet secretary Hassan Wario, informing him that she is coming to film in Kenya.
According to the CS, this has come at a time when the country has accelerated its efforts to market itself as the favourite filming hub in the continent.
During a press conference on Tuesday (where Kenya’s Hollywood star Lupita Nyong’o expressed her willingness to market the country as a favourable destination for filming), Wario said Jolie affirmed the position that a huge portion of the upcoming movie titled Africa will be filmed locally.
“We recently got a letter from Angelina Jolie where he said that the majority of the scenes for the film will be shot in Kenya. We had out-rightly showed our concern that we never wanted Africa to be filmed in South Africa,” he said.
Written by Oscar winner Eric Roth, the biopic film will star Jolie’s husband Brad Pitt as Richard Leakey, the renowned Kenyan archaeologist, politician and the first chairman of the KWS, who helped crack down on elephant poaching.
He also said his ministry has “courted” some “friends” from the Los Angeles Film School to help with setting up a similar facility in Kenya.
